Love that approach.

Yeah I 100% hope it’s just out right cancelled with a 2021 deferral rather than clinging on to an autumn 2020 attempt. Question is on the refund policy for those not wanting 2021.
They could possibly offer Weymouth as an alternative, until it’s binned.
Are they paying my travel and accom down there?
1st thing I learned when I got in to software dev, never release anything on a Friday. Almost certain to go tits up
That would suck, as might actually have some semi-chance of going ahead and being stuck in limbo. Good news would be I assume Weymouth already has too many entries for IM to use it as a semi-mandatory thing.
I wouldn’t be too surprised at them doing some option of transfer to 2021/Weymouth or only get small refund. While I accept they’re in the exact same financial difficulties as every other organiser, they don’t have my goodwill because I don’t trust they’re athlete focused. If Lakesman/OSB only offered say partial refund I’d probably accept that it was money lost and wish them the best at putting on good future events.
Of course they are probably most likely to match the market and offer a full refund minus an admin fee, and that’d be fine. But if they did I suspect it would only be because that’s all they dared get away with, not because they prioritised customer service.
Gone 4:30 and still nothing. Leaving it late aren’t they
Maybe they are waiting until 16.59 tomorrow.
With the health and safety of our community being an utmost priority, and in alignment with the Staffordshire County Council and Stafford Borough Council in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we can confirm that the IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire triathlon originally scheduled for June 7, 2020 cannot take place in 2020 and will return on June 13, 2021 .
In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that this decision due to the above-mentioned unforeseen events may come as a disappointment. While we are prevented from holding the event on the original date, we are looking forward to providing you with an exceptional race experience at IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire in 2021.
At least it wasn’t moved to October
The options are listed below.
- Free deferral to the 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire: June 13, 2021
- Free transfer to IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth: September 20, 2020*
- Free transfer to IRONMAN 70.3 Alcúdia-Mallorca: October 31, 2020*
- Free transfer to IRONMAN 70.3 Turkey: November 01, 2020*
Or a refund
Step away from the crack pipe.
What do the asterisks point to?
Was wondering that. Also wondering why Weymouth is an option for transfer? That surely wont be going ahead.
Interesting they’ve moved Staffs one week back, and Bolton one week forward. Next year they’re only 3 weeks apart if I’ve done my maths right. Not ideal if you were entered for both this year based on a 5 week gap
*(Transfers only available for individual registrations, no relay team transfers will be possible. Transfer requests will be processed on a first come first served basis and numbers are limited.)
I would check the contractual difference between a deferral and a transfer, in case theres a gotcha.
Yeah, that’s what I’m wondering. Eg. What if you transfer and then that race gets postponed. What are your options then?
No surprises with that email. I’m just pleased they’re not trying to hold it this year.
More than happy to move to 2021
As @stenard has pointed out, that does put the Staffs/Bolton double out though
