Is that 2023s version of the 2022 in Abu Dhabi?

I opted to transfer to the following year and it sounds like a more family friendly destination!

yes. Pontevedra is a fab city and very tri focused.

I know exactly how you feel!

Think I’ll have a couple of weeks of recovery after the season and try and drop weight for the spring.

I didn’t get into Celtman 2022. Because I didn’t enter! Couldn’t face the 10oC swim and final 30/200k bike on sealed gravel into the wind. What a wimp.

Instead I’m booked to go to Mallorca for a week in April and do the 312 Sportive. Sun, beer and cycling.

The only 10oC water I’ll encounter is the cold plunge pool in the sauna spa complex. Luxury.

And no midgies.

I’m not doing this, but it has just been brought to my attention.

Maybe one for the future for you proper bike endurance folks? Looks like they move the routes between the Celtic nations.

I know someone who completed the shorter route this year - only 853 miles…

I noticed £193 had gone from my credit earlier in the week.

Also now entered the Great North West Half at Blackpool on 20th Feb, there’s a 25% discount code today. Vaguely recall a headwind in both directions of an out & back course on the 2 previous times I’ve done it!

Got my previous PB of 1:22 there on a windyAF day, back in 2009 :scream:

Saw a reveller taking a dump in the street on the way there :see_no_evil:
Said I’d never visit again (been twice since)

I ran it in a TriTalk Tri suit and @wiganer2.0 came and took photos, editing a handbag onto me

Ha, when I did the lights 10K a few months ago there was a lot of bemused revellers at these idiots running down the promenade on a grey miserable night!

Usually have to doge the puke as well

Lacking the handbag, no magic shoes either :scream::exploding_head:

12 years ago, 12kg lighter.

Happy Christmas, Martin :santa:t2:

I actually didn’t do the handbag work, I just provided the ammunition

All the best mate :santa:

Not that these races are of any relevance to everyone else, but my calendar shaping up for 2022:

Jan 15th: Swimrun event (2.5km-750m-2.5km)
Jan 26th: Possible sprint triathlon, less fussed on this one (Not part of state series like all the others)
Feb 13th: Olympic distance tri
March 13th: Olympic tri, state champs - If can get off work, off work the previous two weekends on holiday so unlikely!
March 27th: Sprint triathlon - No chance of being off for this and one above, might have to try be on evening or nights in order to race.
April 10th: Half ironman, state championships

June 12th: Cairns ironman - Again if can get off work, and be allowed to travel interstate.

I’d normally race about 4 times a year so thats quite a lot, and has me doing every possible triathlon within 700km. But I’m enjoying the sprint tris and want to see if I can do well in the overall series, having already missed the first. Main goal is the April and June half and full though, so earlier ones will be train-through races and if I’m not doing well in overall series I probably wont bother with the March sprint.

In the same spirit, my 2022 season is undecided at the moment. I’m registered for Israman on 28th January, but the country is closed to most kinds of travel to and from the U.S. and the U.K., for both Israelis and non-Israelis. There’s talk that the ban will be rolled back starting this week, but nothing for certain. Even if they start opening up, it might be a while before general tourism is allowed. Then there’s the question of whether the event will happen at all – it’ll coincide with the predicted peak of the omicron wave in Israel. So it’s just watch and wait for now.

If I can do Israman, I’ll be looking for another IM distance race in the northern summer. Maybe Almere – I have unfinished business there. If I can’t, then I’ll be looking for something in the April-May time frame. IM South Africa (and Two Oceans?) or IM Australia are possibilities, as are several independent races in Europe. Suggestions are most welcome!

Otherwise, I’ll do a virtual Wanaka half in February and the Santa Barbara Long Course Triathlon on 27th August. There’s the annual rumour that Wildflower will be back this year, but I’ll believe it when I see it. More sprints and olys are popping up in northern California, so I’ll be able to fill in my dance card once I’ve figured out what I’m doing this month.
