Tailwind ( caffeine ) possibly.

Conditions looked slow, he did an 8:18 by the looks of things, so only matched his best recce, 10th in cat.

Only 5 seconds behind a former champion too.

Always fancied doing some CC races but you have to be a member of a club round here to enter

LO did her first XC today for WADAC, finished about mid pack which is bloody good seeing how she is 8 and a lot of them were 10/11.

Proper starters gun as well, made me jump

Same. Always seems a bit narrow minded / non-inclusive.

I did reasonably well, broke my Strava time on the course & managed not to get bettered by my local rivals. I had wanted to break 8mins & was 7secs the wrong side but gave it absolutely everything - probably too early on the hill  . There was a 300mtr marker across the road & never has there been a longer 300mtrs, at the end I could only roll over the line into the arms of a catcher…as I mentioned to @gingerbongo rolling across the line cost me 3secs & dropped me from a possible 7th to 10th in AG.

Conditions were great on the whole - with a generous tailwind - apart from an absolute deluge which lasted 40mins or so.

It was however an incredible day & amazing that my local, cycling club could organise it. The times of the top lads & lassies was incredible. I was further down the hill to watch them & was gobsmacked at the pace they went off & held.

The Nationals are at The Struggle next year so there’ll be a chance of some big ring action, anyone joining me?

Great pics @Doonhamer it looks like a wicked good event!

In a simialr vein, we were on a family walk on the common when we came across a steep, pebbly hill (@Sowler and @JibberJim know the type). We were trying to get the eldest to burn some energy so I said I’d time her up to the top.

She then started taunting us to try which I laughed off. But then Mrs GB said she was keen. So the little one went next, then Mrs GB. Not wanting to be left out I dropped the bags and coats and had a crack.

Needless to say I’m a pretty big deal around these parts, and yeah. I won. Overall and AG.

:joy:

We said we’d write the times down and go back to that spot once a year on the nearest weekend to Halloween. Make it some kind of a silly Fletcher tradition. See how long I can hold the top of the leaderboard from my eldest!

Oh and Mrs GB was queen sandbagger. She was in jeans and trainers, so said she’ll wear running leggings and better shoes next time to make sure she beats her time this year! :joy:
