2023 races

Wilmslow half marathon tomorrow which I think a few people were targeting (or just participating in my case ). Looks like it’s going be a nice chilly morning out.

Gin Pit marathon Day 1 done - had high hopes of a sub 4 today.

Through half in 1:55 and feeling good

At 3 hrs still on for it but then the wheels came off in the last 10k (hardest part of the course IMHO)

Still 12 mins better than last year

Wilmslow tomorrow with Mrs T

Sacked of Outlaw Holkham Half. Heart really isn’t in it at the minute. I’m still down for Steelman and a couple of local events.

I’m thinking maybe do base work through the year and look at stepping up to full distance in 24.

Sounds like we’ve got a Welsh pensioner champion in our midst

How’s everyone else got on today.

I need to feel completely inferior again

:clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2: well done for grinding it out. Reminded myself that I don’t like that run but at least it’s done.

That medal is quite a chunk of metal.

Covid has significantly reduced my run capability but managed to score 4th overall and 2nd Vet (40-50) today. Poor run 1 in 9th, 3rd in T2 after a good bike (2nd fastest on the day and dropped a position with 100m to the finish to finish 4th.

And well done to you as well

Mrs T likes the route but I am a bit meh about it

The headwind for the last 3 miles didn’t help

Well organised event but ran out of water at the third aid station when we went past - didn’t bother us as we had been carrying our own - not great but some crazy overreactions from some idiots - it wasn’t the fault of the volunteers at the aid station who they were taking it out on

Saw Johnny Mellor cruising past when he was 47 mins into the half on his way to a win in 1:02 - poetry in motion

1st actual podium complete with bottom step today.

3rd in 50-59 at East Leake Sprint Tri. 1st sprint in 4 years, so cocked up both transitions and turns out if you’re a bad swimmer, and don’t work on technique, then you remain a bad swimmer.

Wooden bling cos it’s all eco and that :sunglasses:

I could see they were starting to have a little panic when I went past. It’s the first time I’ve done it since they introduced the 10km and I don’t think they handle the increased numbers that well. The loo queues beforehand were ridiculous! It was a course PB for me - wouldn’t have been if I’d not caught up to a club mate who dragged me back, I wasn’t too bothered by then

Well done otherwise

Looking at ribby hall tri results from yesterday.

Looks a fast course, anyone know what age MVS is ? 50, 55, 60?! fat Buddha may know?

Anyone done this race or fleetwood?

MVS will depend on race organiser - could be anything frankly! always best if they used usual tri age group categories for standardisation but a number of EOs don’t for some reason

It was pretty nippy with a strong wind so I’m glad I wasn’t doing the triathlon  , have your clubmates warmed up yet @JD-Scarabtri ?

Harlech was my first tri in 2009 so it was back to where it all started for me. My wife reminded me that on the eve of that race we took part in a march organised to try & keep the pool open as it was very much under the axe. It seems that things have gone full circle & it’ll be closing because of heating bills in the near future  .

My race was pretty good. I’ve never done a road triathlon & made a few rooky errors but in the end nicked the V50 win by a lucky 8 seconds  , shame Welsh Triathlon couldn’t be arsed travelling to North Wales to present medals.

Amused to see that some of my Strava followers (@Whisk ) reckon there’s a strong “old man going to the shops” vibe about the prizegiving :joy:  :joy:

(More High 5 gels )

I have an old school mate that was racing as well (younger than me).

He’s pretty handy, but didn’t make things easy for himself, instead opting to win the ‘World’s Steepest Street Run’ the day before!

Thought that would’ve been right up your street Doony?!

Congrats on the win though. Cracking stuff!!!
