Not sure yet, need to see how I feel this week and negotiate with the GF as I’m AWOL for a fortnight the week after!
Are you going? I do fancy it, if only to force myself into something!

I’m not race fit but need a good run out
Local 10k this morning. 2 laps and fast.
39:50. Slightly quicker than I thought. Although possibly left a little bit out there.
very nice
Has anyone else had their start wave and colour through for London?
I’m Red Wave 7 (start time 10:43).
They say I’ve to arrive at 9:38 and then my start wave opens at 10:29.
Do I need that full 50 mins? Or could I arrive at 10 (basically one train later into Maze Hill, I’m coming from Woolwich side) so it’s all a bit more streamlined in terms of loo - dump kit bag - loo - head towards start - turn back and go to loo again - go to start.
Same wave as me
Absolutely no idea about timing. I have completely lucked out and I’m staying at the Novotel at Greenwich DLR station so I’ll probably only head up after 10 to give me the chance to use proper loos as long as possible.
He doesn’t add anything about the waves. It is a post-Covid change that has stuck.
@Paul In my experience of other BIG races with wave starts is that the “arrival time” is the earliest you’ll be allowed into the start area to avoid congestion. Then the “wave opens” time is when the back pens open up for the next waves. And from there it’s a continuous slow shuffle until you cross the start line.
So key points - don’t arrive before 9.38. But note you only have 10 minutes to get into the pen so don’t leave it until 10.29 to get there because of bag drop, loo etc etc etc.
i didn’t say he did, I was just putting it up for the general tips.
Oh great, I’ll look out for your number on the back as you plough off into the distance.
That hotel sounds fancier than the London City Airport Travelodge…
I got an “upgrade” because the one I originally booked is still be refurb. So definitely luck
Sorry @leahnp not going to be there tomorrow, body just isn’t ready for something like 3 hours of racing even at a steady pace, good luck if you go.
I am looking at the race near Derwent that we did in May though, are you doing that?
You will be missed. The concept of racing in the beach was missed until I read the breading this morning. I’ll be down for Derwent if I’m not a designated driver
5th overall and 1st V45 this morning at the Bamburgh Duathlon, beach run and the conditions on the road was more like a gravel than TT ride. My left brake lever rattled out of the bar so had to rely only on my front brake for 16 miles.
Well done:+1:
nice one! I had similar at Outlaw where my thumb shifter (mechanical, pre e-versions) for the rear cassette rattled out of the bar end so I effectively had 2 gears for about 30 miles. After it gave up I had to stop and physically move the rear it into a middle ring to give me the best gearing with only the 2 chainrings up front for variation.
Who needs brakes in a race?!
Great stuff buddy.
Manchester Marathon - shepherding Mrs T around (in return for all the ultra silliness that she puts up with for me)
Weather cool, light winds - perfect marathoning conditions.
She was undertrained and had a slight calf strain from a bit of a slip coming down Snowdon last weekend
We set a 10 min run and 2 min walk strategy from the off as I knew she wouldn’t make the full distance running and risked the wheels coming off big time if we tried
As usual with Mrs T she started too fast and if I told her to slow down once I must have told her a hundred times
The early kms clicked by easily enough - 24,000 doing the race today apparently
By 30km things were getting tough and her run pace slowed significantly but I know we could go sub 5 if she was focussed
Cramps started to kick in and the going got really tough by 35km
We turned into the finishing straight with about 3 mins to spare and about 500m to go in order to go sub 5 but she was having none of my encouragement- got “the look” when she slowed to a walk and no amount of cajoling would get her running again - “the look” got worse - half expected a punch in the chops. Despite breaking into a run for the last minute we crossed the line in 5:00:20.
Fortunately forgiveness for my exhortations came fairly quickly due to a cracking can of Erdinger
Bottoms up all
P.s. son (on the back of not very much training at al)l did 3:20
PPS - a mini Tent 134 MdS reunion with half the tent turning out. The only 1 we didn’t see was James who did a 2:59:48 for his first sub 3
A good day all round
Outstanding from Mrs T and well done to Jnr T
Well done it was a great day!
We did water station 1 - completely manic. And then watched just at the last corner at trafford bar tram. A lot of people with cramp in that last mile and a lot of bleeding nipples - it was painful to watch.
