Well done and you’ll be able to see yourselves crossing the line, not sure how long the whole race will be available, but you should be able to copy it

I’m now loosely committed to Elsinore 70.3 & Lahti 70.3 at the end of June. Got flights booked but waiting for KLM to tell me about taking a bike, as I’m doing a multi-stop flight I can’t add the bike without going through their support. Haven’t actually entered either race yet though so it could end up just being a holiday :joy:

Lahti doesn’t start until 3:30PM so the final finishers come in around midnight in the summer sun, and if I don’t start doing some training ASAP I’m going to be one of them!

No real aims except to enjoy them

Who’s booking accommodation for you?

Haha, that’s also my job! Got my eye on somewhere in Lahti. I’ll probably stay in Copenhagen and commute to Elsinore like Matt did.

Sadly it clashes with that Chtriman so that’ll be another day.

Just been offered a place in Trans Continental Race - don’t know what to do

I am entered into Trans Pyrenees, I may ask to switch as I don’t fancy 2 Ultra’s in a year

Not saying you aren’t up to it but it will be a tough ask, especially after the race a couple of weeks ago

The race is 23 July, so 3 months away… however, I would need to do a shit load of prep. At least bike is ready

Interesting! Yeah definitely doing both is asking for trouble I’d say! We are still waiting for Race Manual v1 (confirmed CPs and parcours) I’m guessing this is due to others dropping out early? Start date feels like its coming round awfully quickly!

I’ve also signed up to Hyrox London in November too.

I’ve pretty much convinced myself to race… need to convince my wife and work now

Will they let you transfer? I managed to blag my work for a week off unpaid. Just to help allow with holidays and other trips through out the rest of the year.

How long do you think it will take you? I had a look at the route and based on my plan, it is around 3,400km with 45,000m climbing. I think I can do it in 15 days, based on riding 14 hours per day and covering 250-300 km per day. I would then stay in Greece for a week.

I have sent a mail about transfer.

a friend has done TCR twice - DNF on #1 and finished #2. Reading his updates, it sounded grim as you get little chance to rest and feeding on the go from garages etc wasn’t easy to keep the calories up.

Just checked - he had the DNF on #2 event and finished #3 - he was averaging just under 300km a day.

Sounds grim.

I’ve revised my 3 day 200km per day to 4days at 150km instead :white_check_mark:

Even then, I’ve bail out options.

I am not racing to win, and I think that a good night sleep is preferable to bus shelters. I think that the risk of riding with too few stops and too little food is the biggest mistake

I know that hotels will not be easy to find in some places, like Albania.

I think you need to plan for the worst - sleep deprivation, weather, getting lost etc. I think Rob learnt a lot from his 1st effort which helped him complete the 2nd but it still seemed to be a slog. Would probably suit those who do lots of audax events as opposed to those who race bikes over 180km as part of an IM

#notforme (too frigging old now anyway!)

We are targeting to get in under the 15 days. 300km days and hoteling it, average 20km/h for 15 hours and aim for min 5 hours at a hotel. Anything above those numbers is a bonus and will depend how we are feeling. Probably push it for more hours on the first day as you start at 10pm so could be a 20+ hour shift. It’ll be at least 3500km once you have added in the paracours properly. I’m fully expecting it’ll be 3700 once we’re done, eg got lost, road becomes motorway etc. I think 250km target days could be cutting it fine. We obviously have the advantage of being able to draft each other.

Yeah bus sheltering it IMO is not conclusive to being able to complete it unless you’re at the pointey end. And even James Hayden wrote in his blog the year he won he did hotels as being rested was better overall.

Genuinely, eating enough is my biggest concern among the many! Don’t get me wrong, we are both utterly terrified of what we’ve signed ourselves up for but I know how much fueling I need riding which is ALOT and cramming enough in or carrying enough is a worry and also not taking ages stopping and eating when we do. Unlike @Poet I like a cake stop while riding (or any food for that matter)
