That’s nuts!
I recall you doing the 12hr one, but not the indoor Ironman™️
That seems remarkably fast!!!

Didn’t even have zwift speed
Made me look up the current treadmill records. Absolutely bonkers. 265/247km for male/female in 24 hours 🫨
Concept two rowers and treadmills are pretty standard throughout most gyms
Exercise bikes are all over the place distance wise but as long as your all using the same machines it’s there abouts.

For a day?
As you do!
I did over 6 months specific training*…the first 6 weeks of which was to see if it was feasible…
It is a row bike run, so that’s an hour of effort saved against a tri (hard effort for me) and i focussed almost entirely on the bike…
Once you are up to pace on the turbo, it is a case of holding it there and minimising the decelerations. Coupled with a good nutrition/hydration** strategy, I only broke position a couple of times on the ride.
I trained on the turbo virtually every day, including multiple 5 hour and the 6 hour rides…initially monitoring the distance and then covering it and learning to push the last hour/90 minutes…so these effectively all became over distance rides. I did a lot of sub 60 TTs outdoors but i came a cropper doing a hilly 100 and limped home vowing never to do another again (i cancelled the other 2 i had lined up!). I rode C2C which i think was 140 ish miles in appalling weather. The final thing was to optimise the gearing and find the right cadence…although the downside of that was to lock me in to a pattern that became both pivotal and risky as i am prone to cramp…
I neglected the treadmill because it simply played havoc with my Achilles…and i died on the run***
*The last time i trained for anything…
**I underestimated the heat from the windows - records have to be done in a public place - i I was cooking as the day progressed…
***Despite the very disciplined schedule, i got a bit too excited on the bike and nailed the last hour which gave me a bigger buffer but I paid heavily for on the run…
Because of my ‘position’ in the sport, i approached IM for permission to use the name in the marketing (we raised money for Help4Heroes by racing a team of students) and they refused…I think Guinness dropped the official record after this…
I streamed the 12 hour, and someone watching saw that it was beatable and set out 2 weeks later…what he didn’t know was that a chap in Switzerland had also watched it and started 2 hours after him…i held the record for two weeks, he held the record for two hours…
Berlin marathon for me at the weekend, only a quick break though but not coming back until Monday.
I’m actually around the 3:15 area but will try and hold back and look for a 3:30 pacer as I’m still not sure how the leg will go. Don’t fancy another 5 hour shuffle round a city!
Hopefully the leg will hold up, plan is to go steady, if I’m feeling confident and energetic I can pick the pace up later on but this really is just a case of trying to avoid aggravating the hamstring.
Good luck Jeff, What’s the weather forecast?
Seems alright, dry, cool to start but rising to about 19/20. Fairly calm wind as well.
It’s mostly going to be keeping warm at the start, looking for an old top or something
Good luck - have a good run…
Jeffrey!
You’ve created more ducking pollution than ICI.
Run well man.
Go well mate!

Fookin’ hell.
Are you not out of your 90 days yet?
You probably need a visa or something
Jeff’s leg seems to holding up, through 30km and on track for a 3:27 finish
Wonder if he slept in the hire car last night
Well done Jeff, solid run after a chaotic day yesterday
20seconds quicker would have been nice
That would have been a nice touch.
Nice running @jeffb
congratulations Jeff
Well done @jeffb!
Thanks everyone
That went better than expected but my quads are in bits now, to run a road marathon you need road miles in training.
But given the restricted training and Nice a fortnight ago I’d possibly rate that as one of my best blags
Hamstring was grumbling a bit but never actually got painful, just tight. The groin was sore instead
There was no pacers in my start pen so I went steady and kept an eye on the garmin, once I’d settled into a rhythm it was alright. Felt fairly comfortable cardio wise.
Started having a rough patch around 25K but there’d been no energy drink or gels until 23k! I can’t really stomach bananas.
Perked up after I’d had some Maurten drink and a gel. Was slowing as I headed to 35k but knew I was almost there, didn’t want to walk it but thought the leg would hold and was still on for 3:28
Went kaboom around 38k and grovelled my way back from there, was determined not to walk though.
Went through the Brandenberg gate and just about picked up a bit to sneak a long 3:33. Would have certainly accepted that yesterday.
Was a great race, maybe as good as Boston but other than the start and finish London is still better.
PS: I did get a hotel which was more expensive, and also a refund to limit the pain.
