I have “ something “ planned every month this year.
Bolton 70.3 doesn’t really suit but you never know…! This distance suits the upper end of endurance this year.
I’d like a real race but this would do as a self test. If I can’t find one.
I’d do it all in one go
Pool
C2 bike
T mill / run outside in the summer.
Was having a bit of a think about goals for this year, as the first few months haven’t gone quite ‘to plan’. And i mean plan in the loosest sense!
70.3 in May - had originally intended on fighting for a potential AG win. But downgrading this now, as i’ve just not been able to put the hours in. I should’ve had multiple 2-3 hour outdoor rides in by now and i’ve not done any swimming (bar messing about with the kids once a week).
So i’m going to amend this one to a sub 5:35 (40 - 3 - 3.15 - 2 - 1.35). But it’s a hilly bike course and a multi-terrain hilly run (for a tri) and I’m not sure how accurate the course is - will have to look into it, as it’s changed slightly from last year.
Then focus will be on running all summer to get fit for the North Coast 110 miler. A very tough race. Nothing specific, but just going to enjoy my running and riding my bike for fun and have some arbitrary targets that would be nice to hit in my first year as a V40 during the Spring/Summer.
GOALS
Tri
70.3 - Sub 5.30/35 and an AG podium at Roadford Lake 70.3 (depends on who turns up of course; but based on last year’s results!)
Running
1 mile TT - 4.58 (80% Age grade) - DIY run down the seafront one day
5km - 16:55 (80% Age grade) - probably Exmouth Parkrun, likely towards the end of the summer
1/2 mara - 1:23:59 (71% Age grade) - solo/self organised training run - ideally before Roadford
110 miles - North Coast - just finish the thing. Be nice to be under 30 hours, preferably closer to 24.
Its not a ‘how fast can I run a half’ type goal. More an ‘if I can run a 1.24 pretty steady/without too much effort then I know I’m in decent 70.3 run shape’. So more of an indicator session.
Yeah if I was targeting an actual half it would have to be solidly under 80.
Was thinking about this and this year ain’t going great I have managed the 5K and Tokyo isn’t open yet. The 70.3 target isn’t happening but I haven’t completely given up on the half but it’s looking unlikely.
I did manage Valletta and Athens is still booked in, as for work, well there’s finally some updates in a couple of weeks!
Think I can pretty much consider all attempts done for this year.
HM: Failed, not done anything longer than 10k
5k: Failed, 17:38, a pretty big PB though
3000m: Failed, 10:00.08 ran last night, again big PB
1500m: Didn’t do one
800m: Failed, only did one easy one
400m: Achieved, finally got an official 59.x
Weight: Failed, hovering around 78-79kg
Swim: Failed, don’t think I’ve attempted one. Not swum for a few months.
I’ve even been swimming!!!
Rode my bike from the west coast of Scotland to the east coast of England (which was incredible )
Ran under 20mins at Whitby parkrun
My six month bike focus yielded my lowest ever in season FTP.
My run focus then yielded a calf injury (thanks to a dog) at the beginning of October that Im just recovering from, so I had to cancel my 70.3 sim plan.
Whilst my weight has not gained its traditional annual 1-2kg, I’ve not lost anything either pretty much flat all year.
I will say that I followed my objectives pretty well, so my training has been more consistent and my sleep and nutrition better:white_check_mark:.
I did simulate the 70.3 bike outdoors on my roadie with winter wheels last Saturday but only did enough to see where I was at - 51km at 207 AP 218 NP - at the same HR I held at Ironman Barcelona in 2021 but +30W.
Only a tester but I’m taking some small comfort from that.
How was your season? A 20min parkrun is good going for anyone.
