Congratulations :slightly_smiling_face:

Was that on ballot or points?

I think I’d go with commiserations for you :joy:

Ballot. Perhaps they felt sorry for me as I was the first athlete redirected onto the low route in 2021… missing cut off by a minute. Or else luck.

Yeah I’m going to look into thermal swim vests etc. I feel frozen already just contemplating that swim again. It’s the only thing that puts me off the race. Well I guess it has to justify being “Xtreme!”.

Well I guess I know what my 2024 races will be

  • Roth is already on the calendar
  • TCR10 - well someone has to keep @Sowler company

Truthfully, they’ve done me a favour this year as I’m still struggling with a few things and I’m not sure how next year will play out. But, it does irk my sense of fairness that they call it a ballot when it seems it’s nothing of the sort. Every year I say I can’t be arsed with it yet every year I throw an entry in :man_shrugging:

I was probably just lucky. Consider marshalling as they’re a fun bunch and it can be a good day out in the hills, though accommodation is difficult. I think they may book beds in the SYHA.

Decided to transfer the 70.3 in Valencia to the one in Westfriesland  will also enter the Graveline race the week after.

Also entered the 70.3 just outside Athens in October next year, get a late season race and bit of vitamin D before winter arrives :joy:

Need to give the credit card a break now, and then think about the travel!

The Grave-line race sounds ominous. Take care… :headstone:

Gravelines is an interesting place. Has a rowing lake a la Eton Dorney where the tri takes place; has an intact set of town walls built by Vauban’s engineers (google Vauban); but also has a scary big nuclear power station with 6 reactors.

Lost Dot (TCR organisers) have launched a new routed race around the Balkans. However it is a ‘no fly’ event for eco reasons, fair enough. However what gripes me with this is, they like to talk about bringing inclusivity and diversity to ultra cycling. However typically land travel not only costs more but takes considerably longer. So the likely entrants are going to be the wealthy who don’t have such restrictions on their time off from working and can also afford the increased costs of travelling in that manner. Seems like a backwards step to me.

How far back (in time) are they checking your ‘no fly’ credentials?

As in to get to the race and I assume leave you must travel by land. I expect they will ask for some proof and if you don’t probably mark your finish time as DNF

Getting to Albania for the start would be a challenge. Very few trains in Bosnia / Croatia. Best bet is probably train to Bari then ferry to Albania then ride/cab to Shkodër
