Are all the castle lakes minging then?

Hever for sure.

Castle Howard lake always stinks. One year I was riding along wondering what the horrible smell was, then realised it was me

The Belvoir lake tan !!!

Thankfully I’m signed up for the middle Du so won’t need to put up with the swim :face_vomiting:

Well I’ve already signed up to 4 events next year. 2 running, 2 multi sport.

Must be something in the water.

One for me this time!

Valletta (Malta) half marathon in March

Having a few days in Italy before heading there, hoping for a bit of sun

I did the malta marathon for my 50th a few years ago and the half joined the back half of the full so i got to meet my wife who was doing the half. It was a little lumpy but a nice downhill to the harbour at the finish. Also had a swim in the sea without wetsuit in early march (got a bus to the only sandy beach) which was great.

I did Xterra Malta a couple of years ago. Nice place and great little beach

My first event for 2024 is Chillswim Coniston (5.25 miles end to end). I chickened out and have gone for the wetsuit option even though im carrying enough insulation. Done 5k’s before so bit of a step up. Ive enjoyed a couple of swim runs in the lakes because theres great scenery to pass the time on the swim.

Weymouth 70.3 entered. Purely because otherwise it’d be event credit going to waste. Hopefully it’ll excite me more when it rolls around

Would be keen to know how the chillswim goes. I wanted to do Windermere a few years ago but didn’t have the money so started planning to just do one solo on the cheap, although that also ended up getting cancelled and is still on the bucket list

Ironman Cork cancelled in 2024 following the death of 2 in the swim this year.

Not a surprise, probably waiting for lawyers to resolve issues before 2025 even gets the go ahead.

Probably get offered places at Bolton, Swansea or Weymouth :joy:

So in 1 year, UK&I go from 3 IM distance races to just 1

Lack of locations for a sea swim that is clean enough?

Water quality at Sunderland wasn’t the issue - the water where the Sunderland swim took place was fine and all the negative reports relate to water quality outside the harbour area. Mixed messages.

I think the problem revolves more around money - both from the host city and lack of BTF funds to manage it.

Water quality must have been an issue if so many people were ill after it, even if BTF tried to suggest it was norovirus…
