It was the Welsh Triathlon middle distance champs event this year - it’s run by the guys who set up IM Wales and run the Long Course Weekend.
For those in the South East, just heard that the organisers of the Bewl and Sussex Triathlons (TLSports) have stopped organising them for the future (plus other events they organised - Bexhill 5K series and Poppy Half Marathon). A great shame as they were mainstays of the SE circuit for many years and we raced, volunteered and TO’d many of the TLSports events over the years.
Hope Bewl Tri gets picked up by someone else - it’s a great venue.
Long course weekend is coming to Yorkshire in 2024
Problem is that it’s September and around Nidderdale and Pately Bridge. It’s lovely around there but also could be quite cold, trying to think where the swim would be.
Late in the season if you want to use it as Ironman prep unless you’re going to Kona or somewhere further afield.
Should be jellyfish & shark free though.
But loads of Northerners. They’re way scarier than a shark.
Haha, just read the swim is in Grimwith reservoir, absolutely beautiful part of the country but it’ll be bloody cold, my guess is that the risk would be polar bears
Or hypothermia
Those roads aren’t big either if they’re expecting a lot of people, TBC though I guess.
They’re not selling me with this one
Any interesting sub HIM distance races out there?
I liked the slateman and sandman.
They’re way ‘something’ but scarier isn’t the word I’d use.
What do you mean by “sub-HIM”?
Races less than 5 hours?
Or less than 1.9\90\21.1 ?
You may have heard The ROC mentioned?
Looks amazing.
Fancy cycling 50k after running up and down Scafell or Snowdon?
Of course you do!!!
Like @jeffb said, those races in Llanberis/Anglesey also look good, but quite dear IIRC?
Panthers would be the worry, surely?
I really like cycling around there, something else to spend money on
Wonder if the bike will take in the likes of Buttertubs, Grinton etc I think a few might be pushing if they do.
Buttertubs would be very interesting!
Yeah, any Southerners that give it a try will be in for a shock
I’ve been up it a few times, still survived, but we have opposing thumbs, so probably an unfair advantage.
Ah, did you use them to walk and push the bike up the hill? The rest of us pedal
Yes, what we would generally call ‘short course’ but anything significantly less than HIM in total distance or time. Perranporth, Slateman etc. Generally anything up to about 3h for a fit athlete.
I’ve only ever pushed a bike up one hill and that was the final 200mtrs because it was a TT bike on 36/25 and that wasn’t in the north. I had to stop for a car coming the other way and couldn’t get going again.
