So @jeffb in Marathon, @Matthew_Spooner in Cascais. Anyone else to load up on the trackers this weekend?
Spoons with a 1:17 swim, he never changes does he! Already up 21 positions on the bike after 20 odd kms!
I don’t think it’s a particularly fast swim course though, fastest M50 was only 58 which is slower than I’d expect.
Making up places on the bike but the top bloke is pulling away.
Spoons up to 9th in 50-54, 35.1kph bike avg at 152km.
Looks like he’ll claw his way to ~7th by T2
Good bike split but it’ll need a decent effort to get into the top 5 but I think at least one will have a meltdown.
Wonder how many Nice slots for M50, I’d reckon at least 6?
He’s currently 8th, running well by the times so far.
Just found out the Great South Run has been cancelled for tomorrow. Very high winds forecast apparently.
510 people passed on the bike course
Bravo Matt. Superb pacing, great result, Nice slot in the bag!
I may need 1 or 2 roll downs
Went far to easy on the swim, I didn’t get onto decent feet. However came out of the water feeling really good
Cascais is a brilliant course, really enjoyed it. Bike has a bit of everything, including an F1 circuit, 120k on closed dual carriage way was also lovely
Also snapped my base bar, so lap 2 only had rear brakes
All ready for tomorrow and just want to get on with it now. Going to be quite chilly though with it around 14C at the start of the bike and windchill, have got an aero top but won’t warm me much. Water is probably about 20c though which should help.
It’s 800m on a poor road from the swim exit to transition though when that takes ages! Didn’t look like they’ll be carpeting it so could be unpleasant.
Bike course seems alright, roads were generally alright but some rough patches and drain covers to be aware of and not sure how the wind will impact it.
If I can start the run in under 3:20 I’ll have a chance but don’t see me running much faster than 1:40 if it goes well. Aiming to set off around 4:30-4:35 pace and see how long I can hold it!
Luckily the hotel is a bit quieter so far tonight, the kids party isn’t a rave like last night!
Well done, Matt
Well done @Matthew_Spooner , good luck tomoz @jeffb .
Yikes
Well done @Matthew_Spooner, good luck for tomorrow @jeffb
Jeff’s out of the water in 39 minutes and well into the bike, he was 47th M50 at T1
Probably do a Matt & overtake loads now I expect
