2025 goals

First half of the year is going to be solely focused on training for the Chase the Sun South event on 21st June.

325kms in around 15 hours total, doable, but I am a way off that at the moment.

Oh and somehow work towards reducing the effect that work stress has on my life.

Amen to that, brother.

Feel as though I can write my goals down now, rather than having them as a secret in my head :see_no_evil:
Well, I’m carrying over some goals from last year:
10 pull-ups
50 push-ups
5 mins plank

TBH, I haven’t attempted any of these for a while.

Climbing goals: to become a solid 6c+/7a indoor climber and climb more outside…and work on my fear of falling

Sounds like an entirely rational fear & one to be cultivated :grinning::+1:

I’m a bit all over the place really. The main goal has to be to get my work situation under control. We are not replacing the director now, and the interim one will be doing it full time. That’s great, we get on well but he is Head of Finance and has other fish to fry, so is 20% dedicated to Commercial, at best.

I’ve said if it’s going to be this way (which I’m not unhappy about TBH) then I need to prioritise longevity and actively avoid the perpetual burnout situation I’ve been in. He agrees.

So 2025 work goal is to work smarter whilst being expected to deliver at an even higher level. To that end, I’m prioritising my work environment at home, which is the 3rd bedroom makeover project. I’m filing this under the adage ‘dress like a golfer, play like a golfer’

Big year this year, turning 60. Lots of unfinished business race wise but also coupled with realistic expectations. My best days are far behind me but I want to prioritise longevity and mobility and if that means adjusting the races I do, then so be it. (I struggle with this). Train smarter, sometimes hard but most mostly not. Just be more consistent.

Come to terms with the fact that being older parents is not an excuse for looking for an escape route. (I don’t mean divorce or anything) but waiting for things to be ‘less crap’ and being envious of those about to retire doesn’t help. I made this choice, live with it and accept that is ‘how life is’.

This will also be the ‘year of the house’. I’ve really enjoyed the research on my home office makeover and it got me thinking about the rest of the house. Our place is neat and tidy (most of the time  ) and apart from the kitchen which is green, every room in the house is ‘greige’.

We are a pretty clutterless house but it lacks warmth and the nice touches which everytime I see in other people’s houses I think ‘we should do that’ but we never do. I don’t think there’s a single photo of us as a family in the house. There is one of LO on the piano

But most important;y, be a better husband and Dad and son. :+1:t2:

The long summer solstice ride is one of the few endurance “ things” that I quite fancy
An ultra run is the obvious answer … maybe ?!

But really do fancy this or something similar
Even a home made thing?!
Poet did something a few years back IIRC?!

Is this in a group?
The draft would help those kph averages on such a long long ride

Yeah it’s an organised event.

I know two people who’ve done it. One didn’t mind it, enjoyed himself I think. The other hated it and was dead after 200 odd km with still a long way to pedal (into the wind).

My goals,

Just more consistency. I’d like annual total training hours to be over 500, standards have slipped the last two years. With a little focus with swim and run will be ok but I need to ramp up the hours on the bike. That’s where I’m really suffering at the moment. Got until around May for the first race so have time on my side.

Yes Organised event, starts in Sheppey at sunrise, ends Weston-Super-Mare, hopefully at about 9PM

Interesting route through south London and then on through the counties south of the M4.

There is also a North Route, Irish Route and an Italian Route.

You might also want to look at “ride to the sun”, if you want a cheap (free) and cheerful version of similar. Sets off the night before the solstice, rides Carlisle towards Edinburgh

Idea of an adventure ride, summer solstice has caught my eye since Flash posted it. Might think about eloping to Gretna/West Coast and back for a trip along Hadrian’s Wall for ~250km.

Bit further but a trip to Scotland and back might just work for you, maybe too far for one day? train somewhere and ride home is an option too.

I managed a mere century before getting bored and turning for home :see_no_evil::joy:

I did Scott Frontier 300km gravel ride last year - west coast of Scotland to Northumberland. That was great (apart from the latter parts of Kielder
Forest )

Blimey that’s a busy '25.

Good luck.

(When my back goes, the things that tell me I’m getting better is when I can throw a leg over a bike & when I get out the pool in better condition than when I got in.)

Ive already dropped my Marathon goal for 2025, should be in the second week of training for it but no sign of when I might be able to return to long runs and speed work. If I was doing an Autumn Marathon I’d list it, but its an April Marathon so I won’t. I defer it if not 100% injury free by mid February (if I still can then.)

  • Make the start of Manchester Marathon (April)
  • Sub 1h30 Half Marathon
  • Complete a Half Marathon every month
  • Sub 41 minute 10km
  • 5km within 20 seconds of my all time PR so 19:58 (PR 19:38 in my 20s)
  • HIM part a) Sub 5 b) Sub 5h 8 minutes
  • Better consistently in training
  • 680h training hours
  • Beat my 2hr Bike Power 240 watts
  • Swim err… might need to swim a bit to set a realistic goal
  • enjoy 2025
  • Weight 67 - 70kg for 50% of the year
  • Build back enough fitness to provide a foundation to complete a decent Full IM in 2016 (decent might be complete it or a time goal but thats for 2016 maybe.)

I was 0.6- 2.5% off the first three in 2024, so realistic targets ?!
I’m going to build this week up slowly doing stuff that won’t aggravate it. ( I hope !)
I managed 6/10 for last year.
See how this one goes.
