Think possibly I might win the TriTalk prize for first triathlon of 2025, have just entered an oly on 10th Jan at Katara.

This will however be the only prize I expect to win, being old, a bit broken, and fatter than a goose in late December.

Is that the one down Prestwich Clough?

@gingerbongo - £400 is obscene. But @bbt67 - Outlaw Half isn’t much better at £300;

£260 entry
£18.20 fees
£12 day license
£10 parking pass :exploding_head:

My local sprint is £75 all in, so that’s a no from me.

As for my events, I’ve got;

23rd March - Wilmslow Half Marathon. 400m
From my front door. £35 entry. Or volunteer.
18th April - Dales Divide 600km. Arnside to Scarborough and back. £20 train. Free entry.
3rd May - Yorkshire Divide 325km. £15 train. £55 entry.
17th May - Tor Divide 225km. £15 train. £85 entry (missed out on £65 early bird, so wondering if this is now a bit expensive)
17th June - Solstice cycle to work (it’s 150-160km off road) - Saves £25 train fare.
28th June - Traws Eyri. Free. £40 train fare.

I think my year is taking shape and looks like:

Arundel Trail Marathon, 42km - Jan 26th
Big Mud Trail Marathon, 42km - Feb 23rd
SDW 50 mile - April 12th
Big Way Round 50km - May 5th
SDW 100 mile - June 14th
Dartmoor in a Day 30km (hiking with LO) Sept 6th
North Coast 110km (jury is out, :man_facepalming:t2: )

What I don’t have is a race in March. (could do Norm’s but FMD that’s hard!) and a ‘big 60th race’.
I could also do with the SDW50 mile and the Big Way Round 50km being swapped in terms of timing but that’s out of my control.

Nope - The 13th Gin Pit Double Marathon

I was just looking at half marathon entry fees, they seem unaffected by insanity so far.

I’m considering;

Feb 26th Tunbridge Wells Half £30 affiliated
It’s a miserable route though.

Mar 2nd Dartford half £33
Who wouldn’t pay to run around Dartford? Everybody that’s who.

June 15th Dartford Whiteoaks Sprint £40
Actually a good laugh this race, local and balls out.

I wonder how many people world wide entered a full IM yesterday, NYD?
I also wonder how many today are also thinking why the F did I do that, especially if they got up this morning and saw the frost (UK)… I’ll start training tomorrow, the day that never…

My approach is that if I have paid £££ then I am getting out to train. I’m afflicted by having an all or nothing mentality this can cause problems at work, training and at home.
I did IM Bolton on 8 weeks of training and it was the most harrowing time of my life, after that I vowed I would not put myself in such a position again

This year is focused on the Dragonsback
Planned races:
4th Feb Big Bear Rhino Challenge (6hr event, 5.5k laps flat but very local, and yes it is a weekday)

26th April Rasus y Bannau 75k (covers part of Dragonsback day 5)
21st June Skyrun Eryri 14 peaks 52km (does the Welsh 3000s and mostly covers Dragonsback day 1)
1st Sept Dragonsback

Will throw in a few other races and some Dragonsback recces

1500m/38km/11km this morning

feeling ok but played squash last night which was probably not best prep

edit: had a good race though!

Brought my wetsuit over & this was the first race I have done here wearing it. Been on a bit of a swim mission too in training. Anyway, to my surprise about half way round lap 1 found myself tapping the leader’s toes. So went round him and swam the second lap in front. That has never happened before.

He flew past me in T1 & never saw him again though.

The bike was a bit disappointing. My power is so far down but I think the P2 is pretty aero which maybe makes up for it a little. It was a bit windy too. 6 laps and a bit short. Averaged 37kmh and a feeble 205W for 1h02, and a few riders went past but not a bus load.

Run felt great. It was in a park with man made hills, so a bit lumpy, and with some trees for shade. The bike was short but the run was a bit long. Don’t think I deserved it on recent training, but ran 44 mins & reined back in a few of those uberbikers.

Someone took a pic, don’t think was particularly enjoying it at that point

The kids race was timed so that we were all on course together… nice touch

Anyways, the end result, 2h11 and

But no envelope.

One mistake… I didn’t have any gels so took marshmallows and shoved them down my top. Worse than useless. Try chewing a marshmallow at 37kmh. And my top is now stuck to my torso like it’s glued on.

Overall really happy, mainly happy to be able to run again after a tricky few months :+1:

Sending everyone some sunshine :sunny:

Edited for numbers nicked from other people’s Stravas & edited again to say that the scene here is small and the standard not stellar, wouldn’t have been troubling any podiums in the UK today.
