A frat performance? Wouldn’t stand for that either :joy:

Thanks @Matthew_Spooner it was good to meet you out there.

I really loved the Nice experience but have to admit to feeling slightly disappointed with my run. I still write all of my training down by hand. Just before going out there I was reading last year‘s diary in which I had written very clearly “don’t go out too hard on the run, you’ve made this mistake far too many times, this is not a lesson that you need to learn again”. Seems I was wrong and that I have still not learned how to do this properly. I’ve only ever got this right once (Copenhagen last year). Last Sunday in the first few miles of the run I was looking down at my watch, knowing I was going too fast and vividly remembering those lines from my diary and still, I didn’t successfully managed to put the brakes on. Probably only cost me a couple of minutes but given that that was my 20th I really think I should’ve worked this out by now.

Anyone know much about Keswick Conqueror?

It’s a split 3.6km swim and 25km run Saturday 3hours later, and 100km bike Sunday as part of a wider weekend of Keswick Mountain Festival events.

I think it looks like a great event, so I’m really shocked to see the event only had 10 entrants last year?! At £160 Inc camping with other festival events, live music etc.

Looks like individually the 3.6km swim had ~200, the run had ~650, and the bike ~75, just people didn’t want to see it as a LCW style event?

That looks class! Thanks for drawing it to my attention. I’m going to try and avoid Ironman next year but I’m on the lookout for other challenges and that really fits the Bill.

They used to do a standard (ish) triathlon in Keswick as part of the mountain festival years back. I did it a few times but my abiding memory is of the water being extremely cold. I remember driving over the morning of the race and it was snowing.

Perhaps global warming will have solved that problem by next year. Either way, this has definitely made its way to my ‘possible’ list.

Pretty sure trihard ran Keswick for the first few years, I remember one year that my feet were that numb for the first 2k of the run it felt like I was running on stumps

Yep - I remember Rob doing the briefing and (perhaps we were there the same year) also remember not being able to feel my feet on the run. Good times!

Got checked in and just about ready for tomorrow, usual things like inflating the tyres as I think some had already gone bang in the heat. Strangely calm about it, probably as I wasn’t sure what was going to happen :joy: quite a small field with barely 700 on the start list including some relay teams.

I have got the TT bike but this will be about 3 times the furthest I’ve ridden it! Going to try and get in the water near the front so I can hopefully get finished earlier but I doubt 25 minutes will make much difference when it gets hot. I think some bits of the run are shaded but I’ll find out tomorrow.

I’m still hoping for sub 5 but I think I’ll need up to 1:45 for the run if it does get hot. So, assuming no technical problems or wetsuits getting banned I think somewhere between 4:55 and 5:10! If the distances are accurate.

Would love a bit of warmth down here in Tenby, been howling a gale & pissing down all day. Hopefully better for the runners & riders tomorrow.

That’s taken from the small medical station I think? They took me there in 2015 first, then to the big medic area nr transition, then in an Ambulance to hospital.

Sea looks calm.
