2025 Races

No kilt this year, but I definitely made myself known on multiple occasions :joy:….we’re probably at the stage in a relationship were we can swap numbers :couple_with_heart_man_man:.

It was good to have someone at the pointier end to support while I was waiting for club mates to get into T2.

cheers @davem. great to see ya. You get signed up for next yr on Mon? £617 squid I think! :money_mouth_face:

#209 FGS. Proper died on lap 2 of bike tho, unusually for me. But it didnt impact my run, dunno how that works?!? as I still did a decent sub 4 at 3h53 thankfully. Top day for it after shivering in the rain all day on Sat, tho the fab Colby parkFun was OK. TF I didn’t opt for the Brutal.

Why do you think I was there? Signed up for 2026. Just 3 fulls and a cheeky half next year.

Good to see you on Sunday & exchange a few uncoordinated high-5s :joy: .

How do you manage your run/walk strategy at Tenby? It wouldn’t lend itself to the metronomic approach you did at Nice?

@DaveM Great! Remind me what tother races are? Lanza, Wales…
Becky was a bit of a lively character!

great to see you Doonie @doonhamer, even if kiltless, Tsk!
I was soo pleased not to be doing Brutal the day b4 tbh!
Outlaw is nearest thing I’ve done to Nice on the run. There’s actually few IMs in UK that are pancake flat runs!

At pancake Nice, I count breaths to a 100 for a cruising steady run, and then just 10 powerwalk recovery. This ratio can be adjusted at any time depending how your feeling obvs. It’s so effective its better than drugs, and SHOULD BE BANNED
At somewhere like Tenby, after I’ve done Lap 1, I tailor it more to the terrain, but still counting breaths to ensure I don’t go too far into red zone. Obvs timing the walk breaks for the uphills only if poss is the most economical way to maximise it. Often the next walk break will come halfway between 2 aid stations if its approx 200-250 breaths between them. I figure that out on Lap1! Walking thru each aid stations obvs as a break..

The real win with a RW strategy is not fading in the latter half.

Lap 4 was my fastest of the day, and included an emergency :poop: stop!

Also the whole counting breaths thing is a form of meditation, bit of a mantra. Gets you thru.

Cheers for the reply.

My wife said “Oh, oh, he’s walking” at one point on Sunday but I told her to have more faith :+1:

Brutal would have been grim.

yes Brutal was very grim apparently, ‘interesting’ to read the reports.
Didn’t see you at Colby parkFun TUT! It was OK, just light rain. surprisingly dirty on your kit tho.

Weather on the day, or something more?

Keen on doing it one year, possibly next.

just the weather, p1ssed down all day and windy, right thru to early Sun am. definition of grim! It as handled very well apparently, fairplay to the organisers. so unlucky!

Supposed to be doing a 33K trail race from Otley tomorrow, if the Garmin route is correct it barely has 500m ascent so pretty flat. But I’ve been pretty tired today, had a migraine when I woke up yesterday and not sure if it is the after effects but doubt it. Although it was a key workout for the upcoming races.

Anyway, there’s a 24k route that starts at the same time and goes the same way for the first 9k so if I’m not feeling it I might just follow that back and accept a DNF. I’ve uploaded both routes to the Garmin.
