2025 Races

You lot started me thinking about doing McClane for Halloween and the turkey trot, but don’t think the Santa hat would discourage SO19 from taking the kill shot.

Entered the Leeds Abbey Dash 10K in late November, It’ll be at least 3 weeks since I’d previously raced  see if I can do the sub 42!

I’m in Reims next weekend. A friend and I always said we would do a tour at Verve Clicquout . I may have timed it badly as we are in for the Champagne 10km on the Sunday ( tour is on Saturday) it may be my slowest 10km on record…

and the fact I have not run hard and fast in years…

Supposed to be doing Peterborough half on Sunday, flat course and conditions were looking good a few days ago. But, as per the injury thread my groin twanged a bit yesterday in the gym. It’s been quite sore today, not off the charts or anything though so pretty nervous.

The course itself is a kind of rectangular out & back so other than around 5K there aren’t many bailout options without a lot of walking, even 5K would mean 5K back just about!

I’ve got other races so don’t want to set myself back massively even though this was a target race. I’m planning on an easy parkrun tomorrow to see how it feels.

If all is good I’ll probably go out with the 90 minute pacer, fairly sure I can hold that to around 14k if the leg holds up but not sure afterwards!

Pretty frustrated with myself but didn’t expect that doing some weights!

I’d been considering Challenge Vieux Boucau today but decided on Belgrade instead

Looks like they’ve had an excellent day and a decent race going on the media clips.

Instead I’m sat in Starbucks by the A1 near Grantham :joy:

Not sure this is going to happen, in my mind I know it isn’t a good idea and would be unlikely to be running at race pace but so I’ll see in the morning, got too many races coming up despite it looking like a flat course and excellent conditions.

Leg doesn’t feel worse from the parkrun but 5K at an easy pace is somewhat different.

Sucked up the DNF this morning to avoid aggravating the groin too much, and knee

Started with the 1:40 pacers to see how it felt and although it wasn’t painful I could feel it and don’t want to end up not running until Italy. So I followed them until 5k then pulled off the road with a very easy jog most of the way back.

Must admit the first few K felt like a bit of a struggle but probably because I didn’t do a warmup, started feeling a bit better.

Annoying given the conditions were so good but I think I’d have struggled to get under 93 going on the start. Nearly 600 people broke 90 minutes so a quick course if anyone is looking for one.

Hoping it will continue to settle down, doesn’t appear to have got worse but the tight knee is also niggling :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: probably seeing a very good physio friend on Thursday.

Newsflash it wasn’t my slowest on record :joy:. Was very sensible the day before. Now full of a cold and taking it easy ( read bedridden !). We went on Eurostar which was fine, but was a lot of faffing - I can see why flying is just easier.

We’re on the Eurostar next week. It’s usually fine but I’m curious to see how much faff the EES will be in its first few days :grimacing:

Have fun! Be interested to hear how you get on.

I’m waiting to see if I get checked in Naples next month. It isn’t fully operational in a lot of places I think but I’d rather register quickly to save hassle in the future. A small flight from Manchester and with a bit of luck there’ll be quite a few that are exempt with EU passports.

Many many years ago when I registered my biometrics in the US, the customs officer threatened to shoot me. I’m hoping the French will be a little less aggressive :slightly_smiling_face:

But I can use my blue passport and we’ve stopped the boats

Anyway, that thread is elsewhere, back to races

Not me but a friend did a swim event in @fatbuddha’s neck of the woods the other day - the ‘Hurly Burly Swim’. A 10k (rather tidal!) swim. It took him 1 hour 17 mins. Hurly Burly 2026 — Level Water: The Power of Swimming

They say the swim normally takes between 1 and 2 hours depending on ability. I’ve done one tidal swim before (3.8k and you start just after the tide starts increasing - so the slower you are the faster the tide gets as you are in the water longer).

Standard swim in any US based race :joy:

Like California where I swam about 53 minutes
