Full distance. 3280m of climbing. OMG.
I don’t use that acronym often.
£60 is in fact ten portions of chips from my local chippie! Nice. Just over 5hrs away from me, it’s a possibility.

so it is 1st Aug as TC originally said, not in July as the website above that I posted said.
actually looks a good event & no 6am start
I’ve entered it, hadn’t even seen the start time tbh, might mean I can drive there on the morning instead. I was swayed by: cost, timing between Slateman and IM Wales, and Snowman not running in 2026, as far as I understand. Not looked at the route though, I’m sure it’ll be ok.
If you mean the steelman it usually starts about 10am unless they change it, can register on the morning and small transition.
Camping as well if you’re mad ![]()
I’m sure I heard or read last week that Wales would be the only UK “official” full IM event next year. I wish I could remember where I heard it otherwise I’m just spreading rumours. Which it seems I am.
I don’t think I’d be shocked if Leeds doesn’t happen.
Useful post, thanks all, considering a half next year; my mojo has come back a bit.
Was considering roadford lake half, anyone been there?
Yeah did it a couple of years back as did @buzz. Really enjoyed it. Quite low key but nice feel still.
Nice easy lake swim. Bike is a 2 x lap affair. Really nice course actually. A couple of punchy little climbs, but much quicker and more rolling than I expected around the moors. Traffic was pretty quiet too.
Run was mixed terrain and not my favourite run course ever. But it was varied, reasonably hilly for a tri but nothing silly. 4 x laps if I recall.
Overall I’d still do it again - reasonably priced and less than an hr away from me helps!
I did somersault over the handlebars into a ditch on the bike coming in towards the end of the last lap. Though I don’t think I can blame the course for that!! ![]()
Thanks @gingerbongo
I was looking at 70.3 Vichy, but costs are high when you consider the travel etc
Vichy is pretty much always a non-wetsuit swim which comes as a surprise to - & stresses - a lot of triathletes.
Good news from Always Aim High - please support this. Slateman ironing man distance IS ON!
Annoyingly I got a place for Celtman
which I had to commit to last month
, but I’m hoping Slateman IM will run again in 2027….

SOME RACES THAT ARE NO LONGER RUN: If your looking for something missing?…
UK Ultimate IM & Half - Ellesmere Shropshire - Ended 2025 (but is now T150:T100:T50 style)
Eastbourne ‘Tribourne’ full IM - Ended 2025. Just a half now, on closed roads! see July 12th above.
MidnightMan IM - Dartford - Ended 2024. John Setford is still daft enough to put shorter Olympic & Sprint etc events on tho. https://www.bridgetriathlon.co.uk/
SnowMan Half (Always Aim High)
I’m not sure France or Lanza are in the UK ![]()

Agree with @gingerbongo it was a great little event, well organised at a decent venue. I camped at the lake for the weekend and did the Open Water swim on the Saturday - some slight course measurement issues but all sorted for the next day!
Roads were quiet, although this was the September event on a pretty blustery day. A hot day in May could be different. Some truly rural roads, you can scavenge plenty of spare bottles and @gingerbongo 's tool kit from the hedge if you fancy it. I wasn’t in good run shape so found it a slog, but the twists and undulations at least made it interesting.
I just stuck Lanza & IM France in as they are popular ones that UK folk may want to take into account for planning. If you like a hilly spectacular bike course, Nice is EPIC! and such a fab easy to get to venue, logistics are soo easy.
33% Black Friday Launch discount on the revamped Eastbourne Middle Distance Triathlon : £140 until end of Nov.
ooooh… sounds interesting ![]()
SW smackdown anyone?
Edit: just checked out the bike course which is described as “Cornish flat” and goes through the village of Praze-An-Beeble twice. £99 entry. What’s not to love? I think I may be in.
2 x mates did it last year. Said it was a really nice little event.
