2026 Races

Haha thanks Jeff you’re too kind! It has been 4 years since I went sub-90 for a half marathon and there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then one way or another. Feels like a nice goal at the mo, but let’s see how it feels on a rainy Thursday in January

The one I did of theirs in Weymouth was pretty good, weather was poor but it went ahead.

IIRC they do the Salty Sea Dog triathlon in Bournemouth ?

I have done race to the Bill a couple of times, Weymouth classic oly and the midweek aquathlon series in the summer. It’s our nearest bit of sea which is the main reason, but they are well run and sensibly priced

Indeed. Even I’ve done one of their events. The Portland bill marathon. All the way back in 2015. If they’ve been going that long they must be doing something right.

As expected it’s a no to Tokyo so at least I can start considering options for the early season, might look at the Tenerife trail race or others.

Still tempted by the 40k Arc in January but not if I go long haul somewhere else as I probably don’t have enough holidays at work.

Aren’t you in the Godless north? That’s a long way to go for a 40km in winter. Would be a great experience. There’s a 16km as well on the Sunday I think?

Yeah, that’s the other thing, an 8 hour drive each way but would go for a few days either side

Don’t stay in Camborne

Has your pension paid out early or something? The Arc prices are bloody eye watering! I’d also say that the back 40km isn’t the best section on the course. You’ve got the really boring section around Hayle on the roads and then the ‘dunes of doom’ (that are really bloody easy!). The full and half are still good races, despite the UTMB stuff.

There are definitely better shorter races in the South though, that will be less glitzy, but much better bang for buck!

I haven’t looked at the prices for next year. My mate is in for the 100 again but I don’t get the impression he’s overly committed. He’s doing NC55 with me (kind of).

I was listening to James Ellson’s podcast on Tues. He’s definitely ramped up the ‘there are other options’ rhetoric.
