2026 Races

The tour is July but the route goes nowhere near when the race is on.

Although it did say their holidays start in July!

I’ll see when I start booking things, can always swap if necessary.

Yes. They get 2 months from 1 July to 1 September. But!!! Versailles is essentially Paris. So all the Parisians move out for summer. The 12th July weekend will literally be the start of the mass exodus from Paris. So you might find a decent Airbnb deal.

The mass exodus will help the race organisers get closed roads for the cycling but they’ll struggle for volunteers.

Thanks, what I read said about the 2 months of holidays and I knew it was essentially the outskirts of Paris.

I think I’ll only be staying locally for a few days, although I was tempted to get the train into the city for a day or two.

@Sowler, the Athx stuff is whispering in my ear since our chat.

Thing is, when I search on social media, just looks like a load of huge rigs smashing it.

Thoughts?

Ran past @Jorgan’s old house today. Seems that’s sufficient service to get a medal these days

Good man!

TBH I had a check through the pictures they took from London and the media team definitely focused on a certain look of people…..So I wouldn’t be suprised if they’ve gone even heavier in on that on social media. There are plenty of ‘normal’ people doing it. Yes there is definitely a high percentage of athletes compared to a parkrun. However you do have the Athx Lite catagory and I judged a few people who were just giving it a go. As long as your comfortable with a barbell, and the METCON movements give it ago. One guy was doing it with his 60+ year old mum, they were not that fit. Often people and judges will gather round the last few people on the METCON to encourage them to try and finish before the time cap. Very few people are smashing all the stations well. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Your made to feel welcome whatever your ability!

Yeah, i dont normally post up my events but was somewhat amused by it. Next time I’m close to blowing up in a race it’ll at least make me laugh :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m contemplating Ironman Oman in December. It’s only a 4.5 hour drive away. But im dithering as a) new stressful job with the need to “impress”, and b) I’ve basically hibernated this winter so starting from zero. None of us are getting any younger though… decisions decisions.

Won’t you be well ingratiated at the firm by December? They must know that westerners like a bit of down-time in the festive month? Go for it.

I guess I’ll be past the setting in period by then. The new housing estate I’m negotiating a house in has eight open air 15m pools. Not ideal for training but I might do a one man swim-run event :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

What’s the thinking there?

could they not have built 2 x 25m, and a smaller one instead?

It’s part of the villa community thing. Every sub community of 300 or so houses gets a wee play park, BBQ area, tennis or basketball court, and a swimming pool. You can see them dotted all over the map below.

And one of the bigger out of town villa communities has its own water park, wave pool, slides etc, for residents only!

It’s a different world…

I’m a 15-20 min drive from the big Hamdan Sports Complex with 50m pool. I’m looking forward to trying it out. The last time I was in a 50m pool was the pre-refurbishment Edinburgh Commonwealth Pool, which was a dump.

With Lanza only a couple of months away and local lochs/sea still around 5 degrees, I’ll confess to being envious of your swim options

I remember the one time I did Lanza, all the ridiculous long rides in the snow and ice, coming off and getting a giant contusion on my hip, the runs wearing ice spikes in the dark. Grim.

Not getting sun stroke is going to be the challenge for Oman. Might just do the 70.3 TBH. There’s one in Oman then Dubai a month later.

Any Brit who does Lanza gets extra points for enduring the Winter.

I’ve just got in from a really cold with heavy rain 2 hour trail run. That’s almost pleasant compared to the thought of jumping into a loch just now.

Have to admit to being tempted by the idea of Lanza 2027. For me it’s not the thought of winter training that’s the barrier, it’s the day job. lf I can fix that, maybe

go for it :+1: :crossed_fingers:

its the thought of it probably taking me going on 7hrs now on bike that scares me

How’s the training going @Bob ?

That’s what I was thinking, it would be a do it for the experience event rather than any purpose.

But Bolton, Wales and Nice were 6 hours plus
