You’re going to look Pro AF on the new bike ![]()
Thanks but you are assuming I won’t DNF the 400m swim…
Meh, assuming it’s a pool swim you can probably walk it ![]()
As expected I didn’t get drawn, probably good news TBH as it would have caused problems with holidays at work.
Away. Phew I can dodge that. Still way too cold for me.
Are you still in for this @Doka ? If so, good luck Tiger.
No, a sorry sob story I’m afraid
.
I went on gravel ride a month ago which was my first since the big accident and took a tumble, I just didn’t get going through a gate with an immediate embankment & fell on the prosthetic side. My reaction to stick my leg out but unable to unclip the prosthetic foot meant I took the fall on the prosthetic knee with the full force going through the end of my stump bruising the bone at the end.
Was mighty painful & couldn’t walk for several days and I’m only really just back to cycling proper. Coupled with a shoulder injury that’s meant I haven’t swam in anger for 2 months, fitness and confidence has took a dent. Just a small weight increase also gives me trouble with fitting the cycling prosthetic.
This was going to be an ambitious challenge for me but one I was up for in good form but having a week contained to the sofa fresh in memory & not in the best shape I’ve decided it’s best to sit it out.
I’m gutted, not least because it was 200 quid & I’ve got FOMO as a bunch of mates are doing it.
Ouch, hope the recovery is quick!
I’m about recovered now, just not in the best fitness.
Sorry to hear about your off, but great to hear your getting back into shape, the improving weather should also help.
Oftentimes when I’m frustrated about niggles, recovery, training etc I channel my inner Doka. Your an inspiration to many in this silly virtual community & I’m sure to many in your real life as well.
Are you going up to Gatehouse to support?

No, I don’t imagine it’s much of a spectator event & I’d rather not be there tbh since I’m missing out. I’ll just get a good ride in from home weather permitting & get some fitness back.
Todays the day. I’ve not put much focus in but have done some longer runs to help with endurance. Yesterday I was thinking about 41 minutes and mentioned it to a couple of people so I’m now committed to it. It’s going to be a whole world of pain in the second half but that’s why we do it. Someone asked if I was going to just jog round… not for feckin’ £33 for a 10k I’m not!
Beauty of it is that the start is 2.5 miles from home and it runs through the village I grew up in (and live now). I’ve just decanted three out of date caffeine gels into a bottle to have before the start and I’ll be ready to go!
Oh, and for the first time in about 15 years I’m not a member of a running club so deciding what top to wear has been my biggest issue. Found a (pirates) tri-vest in the cupboard and that’s me sorted.
Double commited now you have put that here!
Good luck
After 3 caffeine gels you’ll need to run fast to get back for the bog ![]()
