4 x 4 x 48 challenge 2021

Oh 4. Yes that’s it - looks like a form of slow steady torture

@YKK did it fortnight ago and wrote his experiences on the ultra thread, worth a read.

I’ve had one good day of training for the first time in a couple of months and a full nights sleep for the first time in over a year so have immediately thought about the Backyard Ultra.
And looking it up there is a UK version - hurrah, and it is less than 50 miles from where I live - hurrah, and entries for 2021 are still open, and it is in 5 weeks time - er…

Walk in the park for you! :dash:

can’t find it - is there a link?

5 - Midday

28:40 / 7:09 pace / 131HR

Legs feel ok.

Changed the work route to take out some of the ups and downs.
Had a can of Sugar Free Monster earlier which gave me a bit of a kick

Planning on a nap before the 8pm run

We (me, my RD mate and a select group of our club - the inner circle) have something in mind along the lines of the backyard ultra. We’re in secret planning mode for a potential 2022 event. It will be blimmin tough!

Brill thanks

Sounds awful/ novel

6 - 4pm - 24 miles done.

29:27 / 7:21 pace / 130HR

Quick dash home from work.

Thought I’d do 3 laps of the waste ground so changed into my NB 1080v10
Windy AF and rubble underfoot for the back section meant a hasty reroute back onto the pavement.

I can’t get on with the NBs so legs felt heavy.

Bath and nap time now

7 - 8pm Day 2 - 28 miles

29:18 / 7:19 pace / 125HR

Nice 90 minute nap after a hot soak
Alphaflys are on.
Forgot how bouncy they were.

Quads, all 4 heads, sore now with each step, so good IM practice

Luckily headwind on the way out, so hoping that stays the same for the night shift, but it’s getting cold out there

Just eating some pasta and watching TV
Probably have a short nap before the midnight run

Keep going @funkster, brilliant effort!

Yes, keep going, couple of tough ones coming up then the home straight and the rest of the weekend in bed, or in your case probably the pool!

Slightly full belly but not spaced out like last night.

Last half mile was tough.

Off to bed for a bit

9 - 4am Day 2 - 36 miles

29:27 / 7:21 pace / 119 HR

We’re at the “hardest part is getting out the door” phase now, closely followed by the “second hardest part is not stopping” phase

Very chilly out, but no real breeze.
Kept this to a simple out and back as my mind is wandering now.

3 left to do all in daylight

Thank you for keeping the updates going, I’m sure we’re all feeling a part of it and virtually supporting! 3 to go and sounds like it’s a good challenge.
