Bike Candy (or not!)

This isn’t me!! I’ve just seen it on the aero coach Facebook page

Yeah - I can’t see the advantage to positioning it like that. Especially as you’re surely only able to get your bottle by breaking your aero position, and sitting up

Was gonna compliment you on your position. :joy:

Yeah he does look bloody fast

Anyone notice TGHs bars on Saturday. Full on 90 degree bend. Never seen those before.

Yeah, his extensions looked agricultural compared to most; especially the moulded carbon ones most top guys have. Seemed very un-Ineos.

Just stumbled across this pic. Alf Engers setting a competition record of 49 minutes 24 seconds for the 25 mile TT in September 1978.

No aero bars, no carbon, no deep sections or disc wheels, no lycra(?)- makes me think just how much really must be about the engine

  1. That chainring looks mahoosive
  2. Are those wheels normal size? They also look pretty big.
  3. He must have had monster power

Dunno about the wheels but look at those thighs.

If this was ST, the first comment would be, saddle too high…

Actually do those cranks look massive too?

He’s definitely wearing a rapha brevet top that i covet though…

Throw a disc cover on, no-one will be any the wiser

Great photo. The old photos are brilliant. Old school - forget about your 160mm cranks and open hip angles and aero cockpits and expensive skin suits etc. Pedal hard!

That’s still a great aero position though, would be good to see what he’d do on a modern bike.

Post that picture on the time trial thread on Facebook. 1st comment will be about head down riding :joy:

He’s got no front mech, so that’s a free 5 minutes. :grinning:

Every time I see pics like this I really want to build up my 1957 frame but just can’t justify the cost. Be great to go with a Campag Record groupset but at c. £900 plus the wheels/tyres/saddle/chain/bars/pedals/stems etc

I’m a sucker for unusual bikes, but see real Frankein bike potential here. Its about £200 (250 chf)

I love the old Softride TT bikes but just don’t trust a beam (especially an old, history unknown one) at my weight, otherwise I may have tried to find one.
You could go a number of different directions with that, what are you thinking? (have you bought it?)

No not bought it, just contemplating.

I love the Softride TT bike, with Trispoke wheels one of the best looking bikes ever (no idea how they ride though)

With this one I’m not 100% sure, possibly gravel bike setup, however, I know someone selling a set of 26inch 1990’s Campag Shamal Wheels. I’ve got a 10 speed Campag Record Titanium Groupset, which may look nice with a set of drop down bars
