New an ex walker who did some running after he retired as it was less injury prone. He was a low 30s 10k runner off the back of his walking fitness.
Remember talking to him once about these new shoes that were supposed to detect if you were lifting. It would be the death of race walking he said, because everybody lifts. His reasoning was the rules state you must appear to have 1 foot in contact to the naked eye, so as long as the judge couldn’t tell, you were legal. Sounded a bit like “you are only cheating if you get caught” to me.
