But how much benefit do they offer on ‘off road’ surfaces anyway? The run is way more than 50% off road.
Well that’s a load of crap then isn’t it!
Suck it up Princess. You’re going to have to rely on your run training

All 31kms per week of it

Erm, no way is it.
I’d say 33% - max.
I ran it in 4% and slipped coming out of T2.
It’ll be fine for Next% or Alphas
Well it’s 2 miles around the lake, and then you have the bit over the log and through the woods. And we all know the run is only 12.5 miles.
Admittedly, I’ve only done that lap 18 times in the Half and the 226 with 5 similar laps, and two Inter Services Champs there…but… I’ll do the sums.
The whole of Lake 32 is off road (3.5km x3), plus the other lake (Neigh Bridge) through the woods and more tree roots (0.6km x3) and the section leading up to the log (0.3km x3) I make that 13.2km
💁
Right. So am I crushing grapes on this course then, or do I need to buy pre crushed?
I got the run at 20.8km
300m short.
A lot of it is hard packed trail, which probably tricked my mind into thinking it’s pavement.
I defer to the esteemed leader here.
@gingerbongo won’t think of it as “trail”
Dude, I ran 1:29 off a decent bike split, in my first middle distance in about a decade. You’ll crush it.
“Trust me Daddy”
Yeha but I wanted to go vintage. Grand cru rather than Premier cru you know?!
For that I needed bouncy tarmac for dem Next 2s to do their ting.
I’m excited. Was hoping to swim this weekend, but my finger is still very sore and I don’t want to risk an infection. So gonna have to give that the full week to heal. Maybe a splash next Friday with a bit of luck
That excuse barely scrapes a C grade ![]()
Haha! It’s true doc, honest! It’s bloody sore still!
I was hoping to go for a run today, but Jupiter and Neptune were in an unfavorable alignment
There’s plenty of tarmac to get those shoes spinning
pigeage
I’d watch the forecast, and take an additional pair with a modicum of tread.
I wore a pair of saucony kinvara when I did it and they were fine. Trail is mainly hard packed dirt as I recall. Would you have time for a recce? If so take 2 pairs and suss it out! Great event though, enjoy!
Yes I’ll probs take 3 pairs! Always best to have options in the car. Nexts, zf, and trailies just in case it’s a total swamp (even if highly unlikely).
Was bone dry when I did it in 15. Can’t remember what shoes I wore on that day. My old zoots I think.
Next% on one and trail on the other
Must’ve been an omen

I’ll be volunteering on the run course somewhere. Weather is currently looking nice. Good luck chaps.
