Cotswold Classic / 113

@chickenboy what’s your current thinking on the shoe situation then? What did you go for on the 113 earlier in the year, and has it convinced you to alter your strategy or not?

As long as it’s not poured for several days beforehand, you should be fine with the Nikes. 2 years ago I used ZFs without issue (same day Poet slipped) and most years I have used shoes with limited grip (Kinvaras, Hokas, various Nikes).

just seen that the numbers for the classic are up over 1,000 entrants! Up from 700 at the 113 earlier in the year. That’s a big old field!

Ta.

I’ll do my dilligence on the day and get there early enough for a course walk. I’m thinking it’ll have to be pretty bad for me not to wear them tbh. My Pegs or ZFs have barely any more grip than the Nexts, so not sure what i’d been gaining there other than they’re less ‘squishy’ combined with squishy mud. I can run pretty quick in my trail shoes, but they destroy my calves and feet.

I think I’ll be leaving the Next% at home and going with the baby Alphas (Next% Tempos) as they are better in the grip department. I can’t see it being that dry between now and Sunday for pure road shoes IMO.

Anyone have any tips where I’m going wrong on the bike, getting pretty sore seat bones on the bike, which doesn’t make for a comfortable run. Do I need to sit more on the nose or move the saddle back a touch or just change to a different saddle? Its some ISM thing the bike fit guy recommended but really tempted to stick the same saddle that I have on my gravel bike on there, Specialized Power which I can sit on for hours and days at a time with no issue? Different position I know but…

Some of the relay names are brilliant!

These are all female teams btw:

I tried one of those and after the first ride, couldn’t walk. Whatever the reason, my anatomy meant I ended up putting all the weight through my hamstring tendons. I have the Fizik tri saddle now (tritone originally, now the mistica) and that’s been a lot better and no such issues

This sounds very similar. It wasn’t so bad on the brick session I did yesterday but after the bike on the Oly Tri I did, it was pretty horrible, I thought it was my glutes but this make more sense. Will do my best to hunt a Spesh saddle down this week.

So last year I ran in a pair of Brook Ghosts which I will take as a back up pair in case it is really muddy

However this year I will run in a pair of NB FuelCells (carbon plated) . I might slip a couple of times over the course of the Half Marathon but probably on balance (see what I did there ) I think that they will be worth the risk.

I have just looked at the forecast and from Wednesday evening it looks dry which tips me more towards the magic shoes

This is my exact current thinking. A slip here and there may cost me the odd second. But once those puppies get on the tarmac, then i want them to be paying me back on triple time!! :heavy_dollar_sign: :heavy_dollar_sign: :heavy_dollar_sign:

haha - that’s my tidy writing! What you can’t tell from that pic is how ridiculously tiny my writing is.

Where’s the double espresso?

I found when setting off early I need to make sure I have some good music playing in the car. Nice and calm to stop the adrenaline OD!

Yep, nice bit of Ludovico Einaudi or something to listen to on the drive :ok_hand:

I don’t mind the early night/drive in all honesty. I barely sleep the night before anyway, and it reduces the impact on the family. I can still enjoy Saturday movie night with the eldest, then I’ll just kip on the sofa so I don’t disturb Mrs GB.

I’m super nervous and excited now.

Went on an easy run earlier which went well. Super easy, low hr. But not quite as low as a couple of weeks ago, so I was busy stressing the whole run that I peaked 2 weeks ago, and now my fitness is just slipping away. :see_no_evil::joy:

Tapers suck!

I knew I should have been clearer :man_facepalming: I meant the time line bit of paper thing. Or perhaps its just all my (2) triathlons thus far have all been down the road :joy:
