Nose clip…best Ā£3 you’ll ever spend

Stupid question, does it restrict breathing out though the nose much?

No.
It stops water going up the nostril too.

I use an elastic band looped through to hold it onto my goggle nose bridge :+1:t3:

I cannot swim FC without a nose clip :see_no_evil:

So starting waves are dictated by surname. That’ll be me in wave 6 then.

Good or a bad thing for this race?

I think @Poet & @Jorgan went wave one last year?

Presume @stenard went somewhere in the middle for the classic this year?

I do like a carrot to chase and try and catch and pick off targets as the race goes on

Email @graeme4130 and ask for a specific wave, if he’s still doing that?

You DEFINITELY want the first wave, if it’s bike course @Jorgan and I did - it gets super congested on the second lap…it’s quite narrow in places and you just want to get buried into the TT bars and smash it.

The sooner you can start the run course the better, I know @stenard mentioned that some of the 2-way parts had been changed, but when I did, I had to shout at people to move…and they were not best impressed (yes, because it makes sense that you get the whole path to move at 6 minute kms, when I’m behind you doing 4’s, you tool)

In previous years the bike and run course could be pretty crowded for people riding and running through from later waves, but with numbers approx 50% this year it should be much less of an issue. Which bike course are they using? The normal one with the climb or the alternative used for the 113? Either way, bike course should be fairly OK, run course is where a faster runner might hit congestion - although I believe they have cut back the undergrowth around the lake to a minimum of 2 people wide.

I’m not sure on bike course. I’m not familiar with either and can only really see Stenards ride from a couple of weeks ago on Strava.

ā€œ However, we have devised a change to the bike course some of you may have ridden before to remove the turnaround point crossing over the run course as this lead to the potential for runners having to wait to cross cyclists and this could present a risk to keeping a 2m bubble. More details on the revised bike course will be released in due course.ā€

Edit - not sure if Greame will take wave requests. Seems like he’s had to jump through so many hoops to get the event running in the first place

Pretty sure he said that he wouldn’t being doing so in his latest email

Edit: ā€œTypically, we love that we can normally offer groups of friends or clubs to be racked together and go off in the same waves to race together. However, as part of our many concessions we’ve needed to make to ensure social distancing is entirely possible throughout the race, we needed to actively avoid this this timeā€

Normally I’d say that’s the case. But not with the rolling start. At least, I didnt see that anywhere on the course during the Classic. The nature of the rolling start just meant you had cyclists fully spread out through the entirety of the course, rather than in clumps like you tend to get with real mass start waves. Added to that, the nature of having faster and slower riders spread throughout that rolling start means it’s very unlikely you get chunks of riders all riding similar speed.

The only drawback of a later start is the likelihood of a bit more traffic, but there’s not much you can do about that.

The same is true on the run course. You can pass people fairly easily in all but one stretch of about 50m. But being a later starter will mean you have to pass more people in general.

Well, that’s awesome to hear - so it has obviously really worked a treat.
Bloody good work 113 Events

Hopefully being a little bit later in the year it might not get too busy.

Usually stuck in the later waves by age group and now by surname, although there could be a fair few after me at the start or the swim, it is what it is I guess, a chance to race

What’s the run course like at Cotswold? Is it mainly tarmac and paths or is a lot off road & on grass? Whats the mix?

About 1:3 off road and some grass.
I was fine in my 4%, apart for slipping out of transition.

If it’s wet, you might want a bit more grip - from the Next%

I found it hard to get up to speed on the off road bits, as it’s quite narrow and a few roots to avoid etc.

ok thanks………so if dry the Next% should be ok?

YUP!
Definitely.
