Critique my position/bike/thighs

Fitted two years ago, guru fit, etc.

Don’t think I can raise the saddle without impacting leg extension…but I can take some spacers off the pads…

Maybe time for a refit.

Going to go to someone really good, looking at Jorgan, poet etc on here they look like Chris boardman and I look like the pg tips monkey…
Got to be some free speed there…

The problem with a lot of bike fitting systems, is that they don’t take aero into account; they just fit by numbers. I had a Retul fit on my previous bike in 2011, but since then it’s been by feel, which after a few years is probably best, unless you go and get properly aero tested.

I was going to go to Andy Jackson, who was national 12 hour champ… ?!
Is he something to do with aerocoach?
Peak sports consultancy I think, yes had a great fit at the shop, but as you say I’m not aero… at all.
Really worked on my core and can touch my toes now so should be able to get a better position.

My current setup, obviously not ideal with my leg propping me up.

Fairly happy with my back position and helmet/head.

Currently have a 100mm stem. Going to try a 90mm to try and pull my arms back slightly

Can’t say much about your position but I’ve got the same bowl mat for my cat.

Front end looks good. Wondering if your saddle is too low? Baring in mind you are not at the top of your pedal stroke it looks like your thigh would be almost touching your chest? I could of sourse be completely wrong.

Hip angle looks tight to me.

Some variation of seat, pad, and crank length needed IMO.

Could come forward in the saddle too and reduce the stretch to the pads.

Cheers guys. Not sure I’ve got much more movement in terms of moving the saddle forward. It’s pretty much as far as it’ll go.

Could raise it a touch and see what happens.

If the weather plays ball planning on getting a couple of hours on it on Sunday.

Try leaving the saddle where it is but sitting more off the nose. It looks like your on your soft tissue in the middle/back of the saddle, rather than with your sit bones perched on the nose of the saddle.

Ie more of the saddle should be showing out the back.

Lots of advice; but remember to only change one thing at a time. I would try the shorter stem first. I’d be very surprised if the saddle was too low; if you shift forward on the saddle you’ll also open up your hips and then might find saddle height does need adjusting. But as the old Kellogg’s ad said ‘one step at a time Martin

Agreed, the stem was my first thought too. I might naturally sit further forward whilst actually moving and not leaning up against a wall too!

This was on my second lap of Hamburg, so had been in this position for around 140+ km, and it was hurting

I had a bike fit last year, but this year I increased saddle height by 3mm and put a 100mm -17.5 degree stem to get the bars lower (previously 75mm -6.5 degees)… works well for a HIM but probably a little to much for a full IM distance

Earlier this year I sold a 2007 Specialized Transition TT bike, upgraded to Dura Ace 11 speed, with a set of Planet X 40mm carbon tubs for £450 - It would have probably given you 10-12 of those 15 minutes (It was a 52cm frame so too small for you)

For £1000 you can definitely get a decent used 10 speed 2010-2014 bike with a decent set of wheels; most TT bikes don’t get used much so plenty of good condition bikes available

Alternatively I paid around £400 for a Set of Reynolds 62/88 Tubular wheels around 3 years ago, and the set of Walker Brothers wheels on the picture below on the thread cost me £750 (with Vittoria G+ Tubular tyres) from a Time trial forum member.

As people are switching to Disc Brake TT bike used wheels (especially tubular) are becoming really cheap

Your number belt is also costing you watts

Helmet: around £150
Aero number belt: DIY or £20 from No Pinz
Wheels: £250-£800, used on ebay or For Sale and Wanted - Timetrialling Forum
Complete Bike: £1000 should get a reasonable bike with decent wheels
