Agreed. My first TT bike was also a 2010 Specialized Transition (S-works) with SRAM Red. I got it from a club coach for only £500 with training wheels. I sold it on to a school friend for the same price when I upgraded to a (second hand) di2 Scott Plasma 3 Premium, despite the SRAM red components alone being worth way more (pay it forward and all that).
Agree with Matt that there’s a lot of relatively cheap free speed. I may well look at a higher spec one piece trisuit for next year, and figure out a different way to sort my nutrition than in the pockets of my current Tr3 Aero tritop. I’m less clear on the aero number belt however … I’ve read stuff about how the rigidity of the nopinz pocket can actually cost you time over a flappy number, because it causes more of a parachute effect if not perfectly positioned. Fortunately for my only full so far, numbers on the bike weren’t compulsory so I just didnt bother. I’d also not be overly enthused by having such a rigid number pouch to use whilst running.
Interesting observation, I have no issues with my hips running off the bike. Pictures were taken at Hamburg, where I ran 3:22 off the bike… however, I would be interested in others opinions, since I have lowered the bars since my last fit, hip angle is undoubtedly more acute
Matt, I think some colour matched shoes would make you faster, although red is usually a faster colour in this case some electric blue would be a huge Watt Saver.
And a bigger ring it’s got to be a dinner plate to scare any opposition during check in and racking.
That’s the best pic I have pedal position wise, generally i’m pretty comfy after the swim in that position, although I have recently brought the pads in narrower as had them out pretty wide before which is causing a little aching but not enough to worry about
I would trim that steerer and lower the base bar a little; then it’s as simple as trying to do a relaxed ‘shrug’ in order to 'turtle your head. Some helmets make it easier as they obscure your vision less, so you can keep your head lower. If it has a deep lip at the front and/or sits right on your eyebrows, it will hinder your vision in the aero position.
I can’t do it yet, it’s a shrug basically. Americans amusingly call it turtling.
BC say: Shrug on the bike
You can reduce your surface area and gain significant time savings by narrowing your shoulders and letting your spine drop down between your shoulder blades. Avoid setting your position so aggressively that you will not be able to shrug. A bike fitter or positional coach can help you achieve this position.
Ok, apologies for the outfit.
I watched and read a couple of TT bike fit articles on ‘Tinternet.
The seat s as far forward as it’ll go, but still about 3cm behind center of crank. Feels very comfy, but not tried it on the turbo or road yet.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
yeah thanks for that…
My arms feel ok, but not spent much time in that position yet. I’ll know more in a few weeks when I get more time to start my turbo work.
Do my arms/shoulders look like they’re in a strange position, or where you just enquiring?
Cheers
