Critique my position/bike/thighs

I must remember that one for future reference

On a more helpful note, the only thing I can think of is that you look a little tucked up at the front. A touch more reach to bring your elbows forward and get a 90 degree angle between forearms, upper arms and torso might be a bit more comfortable and take some pressure off your muscles.

Tunnel or proper aero testing required to judge any improvements on that I’d say

Thanks all.

I reckon I could probably get through a 25 without moving too much @jeffb - wouldn’t fancy a 50 though.

Yes, good point @JibberJim i’m not sure what else I could do without quantifying it externally.

It feels relatively comfy just need to spend more time in the position.

Comparing to the best in the world is rarely fair but you do look squished with tension in lower back compared to Top Ganna.

That’s a good photo to compare to though.

Light and day between the two shots

Two things to me;

  • Moving position doesn’t guarantee it’s more aero
  • To get closer to Ganna’s position, you’d need either a very long stem or a longer bike frame. Your position around the saddle/BB looks ok from the single image and probably wouldn’t want to change that.

I do have a few stems to play around with though.

The one I have on there I think is 90mm.

I’m pretty sure I had a 100mm on my Planet X but that’s like comparing apples with pears.

I think adding 10mm reach is worth exploring though so will give it a shot

I had a similar change to make and now have a 120mm stem on. Helped me get stretched out.

I’ve also got a 120mm but that’s too big a jump to make in one hit though I’d say

I’ve been thinking about my position after reading this. Reckon I may be too scrunched up in a similar vein as well. I’ve also been getting sore knees in the big power, tt pos intervals. I read somewhere that raising the saddle height may help that. So I’ve nudged it up a cm or two.

Will test it tmw. Once I’m comfortable, I’ll submit evidence to the jury.

Further to the above, I nudged the saddle height up again today by another cm, and that felt quite natural. So think I’ll keep that.

Might try dropping the handlebars down another spacer to drop that whole front end a bit more and see how that affects things. Will give it a test ride before filming, but feels like I’m slowly getting there. On feel at least. It may look terrible on video and require lots of changes. Guess I should submit sooner rather than later.

OK. Really quick video. I’ll do a proper one, as mentioned above, in a few weeks.

I just took the last 2 spacers out from the stem, and a quick sit on top feels alright. I’ll obvs have to test for power fluctuations etc.

Back position seems to be OK. Anything major that I’m missing or you can glean from this? Don’t worry if it’s too rustic to comment. I’ll do a front and side proper job (full Cornish accent mandatory) soon.

Ta.

And yes, I know how bad the glitchy pedaling is on the turbo. It does smooth out a bit once it’s warmed up a tad.

Looks reasonable. I think you could experiment with raising the saddle even more in 1cm increments. It’s definitely not too high.

Back position and front end looks good to me. Possibly need to practice the shrug and dropping your head.

Probably want to bring the washing in before it rains.

If you’re talking about 1cm differences in saddle height, wouldn’t you be better off trying with bike shoes rather than running shoes which will have a cm of sole?

Yeah I’ve been trying to do that in my sessions, but it felt horrible when the bars were higher. I’ll give it a go in the week again and see if it’s any better. Deffo will need to strengthen the neck and shoulders to do that though.

Ta :+1:t3:

Probably worth a side photo with your helmet on as well as that could make a difference.

Looked ok though

ā€˜reasonable’ and ā€˜OK’

I’ll take that as a starter! :+1:t3: :joy:

I don’t think I’m going to be a @leahnp, but it’s got to be better than last year with a bit of luck!

The clothes aren’t very aero though :joy:

I’m no expert but at the very bottom of pedal stroke your legs still look quite bent, wonder is saddle still a smidgen low?? Please don’t take my word for it though because I’m probably wrong.

VERY nice bike

You definitely need a smart trainer in your life though
