Garmin questions

Yep, me too. Managed to bag on when I was in Ireland for £10 less than here plus I didn’t realise you’re also able to claim the VAT back.

As @APM says, it’s a decent, less distracting version of the forerunner. I have the 255 model so internals wise, it’s almost a direct swap I believe.

I’d recommend it if you do want to hear something more comfortable in bed though I personally miss the end of day round up as well as the sleep report, in the morning though it might be less important to you.

In terms of activities, it doesn’t have any running metrics and doesn’t connect to external HR that does either and whilst it does rely on GPS from your phone for running and cycling, when I was on my bike, no power metrics loaded into the activity despite my Vectors also being connected to my phone via Bluetooth.

For me it”lll be a 9-5 wearer to go with my suit at work with a proper watch but back to the forerunner when I get home, so an expensive luxury really though has its uses if you get time to go out for a run at lunch time but don’t have your Garmin watch.

DCR has uploaded a big review of their band yesterday, I got a bit bored reading it :joy:

Fenix 9 coming tomorrow, according to various rumours.

I didn’t think the 8 had been out that long, they feel a bit like phones these days with very limited improvements. It was definitely worth going to the AMOLED screen from the previous Forerunner for me but until the battery life starts reducing significantly I’m not sure there’ll be much to get me to update from my current watch for a couple of years.

Particularly when they cost nearly £1k!

The Fenix 8 was released 2 years ago, they have been on a 2 year update cycle for a while so this was expected.

I wondered what the teaser email was referring to.

I was toying with the idea of buying a Fenix 7 to replace my 6, but I might hold out and buy an 8 now if they start discounting them.

I’d be reluctant to pay full price for the latest Fenix

Amoled screen would be worth waiting for 8 discounts to kick in, we’ll see if the rumours are right tomorrow I guess.

My Fenix 6 seems to have changed overnight.

When I start an activity now the numbers are all in magenta.

If I get an alert the screen now flashes in colour.

Is this an update, or is my screen about to die?

Handy if it self destructs the day they release the 9 series!

For them rather than you!

A hard reset seems to have fixed it

There are still Epix 2 Pros (47mm) knocking about half price (£399), but tbh I’ve gotten used to my FR935 again, even though it lacks the mapping & sleep metrics of the Tactix that died. I still have the FR735 as fallback atm! I had quite a lot of redundancy built in to my inventory

ETA - I see H Samuel had them as low as 299 before selling out.

I should probably pop into CEX any time I pass one, as they give all their electronics a 12 month guarantee, which is the same as Garmin :man_tipping_hand:

CEX Windsor has an Epic Pro Gen 2 for 280.00 with 5y warranty! Worth it? I’d be amazed if it lasted that long

My Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt has been a pita to charge this holiday. Had it since 2018 so it’s put a shift in.

Loathed to buy a new unit - what are the Garmin Edges up to now 540?

Will probably need to bite the bullet as I can’t see my unit lasting the bike leg at Tenby on current form.

Lucky that it’s lasted as long as it has.

I had an Elemnt Roam and after about 3 years the battery life had degraded to virtually nothing.

I could leave home with a full charge and it might last 30 minutes or it might last 5 hours, but there was no consistency in when it would fail.

Are you taking about a bike computer, that sounds like the way my body responds at the moment.

You lot are useless! I mulled it over with a club sandwich and coffee then went back and bought it. Can’t believe their warranty is 4y more than Garmin…for a used watch.

I glazed over when I saw ^

That is actually funnier than I intended, looking and thinking about.
