Sadly the screen I got for my 935 & Tactix doesn’t seem to be available on Connect IQ any more. All the stock ones are NAFF.

How much for the Fenix 9?
Just looked back at my purchase history. I’ve paid £2 less this year for a forerunner 570 than I did for my fenix 6 in 2020.
I think it’s soon going to reach a point where people just do not want to spend that kind of money.

I paid 280 for that Epix. It’s ridiculous paying well over £600 for a watch with only a 12 month warranty that’s likely to go belly-up within 5 years. I’ve had plenty fail me in that timescale.
I’ve had 2 replacement 935s under a 12 month warranty and my Tactix died earlier this year (used, but probably around 5-6y old and a £750 watch new)

Yeah, they put £200 on the price each time they bring out a new model.
I think they must be close to the point where people don’t buy the latest version and go for the earlier versions that are still on sale instead.
As with phones, I think folks will try to use them for longer rather than rushing to buy the new model every time.
Garmin will let you pay over 3 months, but I reckon they need to split the instalments over longer to make them attractive

I’m currently ‘tied’ to the Garmin ecosystem, but are their credible alternatives. What are Polar & Suunto like these days? I was always a Polar guy in the days of yore (pre smart watches).

The heady days of polar. Then the massive clunky first Garmin Forerunner. The size of a brick on your wrist. Both the polar and the Garmin attached to bike handlebars with a bit of pipe lagging.
Polar sort of went the same way as Nokia - got left behind when the “smart” prefix arrived in their respective industry.

I’m making mine last a lot longer these days, same with the iPhone. Battery life is still good and maps cover what I need, most trails\paths rarely change.

Finnish: Polar, Nokia
Isn’t Garmin American, when I found that out recently I nearly stuck my finger up to them.
I moved away in the mid 2010s for years for other reasons, bike computers where sh1t, but their wearables are good IMO so came back to the Garmin eco-system.
Still use a Wahoo on the bike though.

With HotChillee, their bike computer sponsor went from Garmin to Wahoo to Hammerhead.
I had years of history on Garmin, so I ended up buying a Garmin watch so that I could dual record my bike rides and keep producing Garmin data

Is there not a hack to push data to Garmin?
I don’t think there is for Wahoo.
For the Hammerhead, the device is good as a standalone product but the connectivity is terrible

There are external apps to push back to Garmin but it’s a pain in the arse and doesn’t work well.
It’s always annoyed me that my bike data sits somewhere else so it’s probably a good thing that my Wahoo is on the way out.

Bag of sand for the 9. Garmin are just taking the piss. I see the product meetings like an episode of Impractical Jokers. Someone in their ear pissing themselves saying, tell them it cost £1000!!

Not an easy one I’ve found from the device itself self but I did find that you can upload the GPX file created on the wahoo head unit manually via the garmin connect website and it will import across generally without error.

Coros is probably the main one these days after Garmin, that isn’t Apple.
So I think I need a better watch for swimming.
I’ve got the Venu X1 which is great, but as it’s a touchscreen with only 2 buttons, if you want to change anything whilst swimming, it’s hit and miss due to the screen not unlocking or working with wet fingers.
I like the new interface with the on/off timers, so do I
- go for a Garmin Swim and just use that, leaving the Venu for everything else
- treat myself to a 51mm Fenix for training and the Venu as my daily watch
- another option
