After the face popped out on my Forerunner 735 a few months ago and just after the warranty ended I superglued it back together, but I’m waiting for it to die altogether and have half an eye on Garmin watches on Wiggle.
Going like-for-like, the 735 is now retailing for £263.99. Bizarrely, if you buy a bundle of a 735 and a HRM strap it only costs £199.99. Who in their right mind would buy the watch by itself?
Apart from self-destructing after 26 months and the battery dying 32km into my last IM run, I’ve been reasonably happy with my 735, but it’s old tech now. Is it worth upgrading to the 935? It’s a big chunk of extra money for something which is also old tech now. The 945 is even more money and I’m not sure that there’s anything on there that I would pay the extra for. I never listen to music while exercising outdoors, so the MP3 player is of no interest.
The Fenix 6 does appeal though, especially at the price that Amazon are selling it for at the moment.

I think the Solar is such a big added value over the 6 that I’m not surprised they’ve had to drop the price. I’d quite like an S, although all of that just to have a slightly smaller watch on my wrist compared to the fenix 5 I have now isn’t really something I could justify.
Well, yes, true! And not even 499k … anyone above that mark will also be saving £15k. Given we paused our house buying at the start of Covid, that’s worked out fairly well for us. Although it remains to be seen if there’s simple price inflation.
But in relation to the Garmin posted, a cash saving, plus warranty, is a frustrating loss
The small face really is quite nice. I have always been put off the fenix because of it’s size. I’ve upgraded from a FR235 and it’s ace. The music bit which sort of was the tipping point of selling it to me is a bit buggy but I’m sure I’ll figure that.
Back to the OP though - has anyone else had issues with headphones losing connection the moment you start an activity on your Garmin?
My boss is selling his house at the moment and he had an offer for less than asking price just before the stamp duty announcement. He’s told them to try again because they’re suddenly £15k better off
Fair enough on his part if that’s what he wants to do (if it was just an offer that he was considering, no big deal - if he’d accepted, then as a Buyer I’d just look elsewhere as I’d lose all confidence in a Seller not looking to play further silly buggers further down the line), except if everyone does that and he’s upsizing, he’ll be the one to lose out if whatever he buys is subject to a higher rate of SDLT at the top end.
I would have thought everyone would rather just have £15k in their bank account given stamp duty is a real cash cost. The whole point is to stimulate the housing market whilst also giving people some more cash in their bank account to then spend on renovations etc.
I know a few people who are in the process of finalising moves at the moment, and thankfully noone has tried to play the “give me more money” card (yet)
In the end the effect will be house price inflation. What people can afford has just gone up, so the prices will go up accordingly. Not sure if that is the point, to try and stop price deflation?
People in a property may feel more secure, and more likely to spend on renovations etc. But otherwise I can’t see how propping up house prices is a priority for the economy right now.
