Garmin questions

Garmin do sell their own now…

Cheaper alternatives are available.

Depends what set up you’ve got and where you want it positioned?

Paying the ransom often doesnt work. Restoring entire back up time for them.

The spending a fuck tonne of cash on new security systems as the ones they have at the minute arent up to the job

76 projects do a nice between the bars mount but I have a Zipp TT mount you can have. It is missing the fastening bolt but it should be easy to source

I have the bar fly 1/8 turn TT mount. At one point I used the quick release kit for my watch (don’t bother anymore) and that works for orientation for both an Edge and Forerunner.

I like the look of the new Garmin one. Not having to twist it in will make it a lot easier to mount with my BTA bottle

Some of the hydration set-ups have Garmin mounts built-in which kills two birds if that’s something you’re interested in too.

Thanks for the advice. Just ordered the Zipp mount off Amazon. Looks like it’ll do the job and it’s pretty cheap. I’ll look at hydration systems with a mount next time I get to do a middle distance or longer race.

Q. How did the cyber-criminal get away with hacking Garmin?

A Ran somewhere.

My Garmin 935 is over 3 yerars old, on Triverest battery only lasted 13 hours. It’s also becoming a little unreliable, crashing pretty frequently

There are rumours of a new Garmin 955. May hold on to get that one

Also on Triverest, the mounting plate on my Garmin Edge 1020 broke while crossing a cattle grid. Need to see if Garmin can repair it.

Services starting to resume

Somewhere, someone’s getting paid

Just had my ride from last Thursday evening appear on Strava so something is happening.
No sign of more recent ones and Garmin connect still has outage message on and won’t sync.

Last 3 runs have just trickled through.

They’re obviously not in the clear yet!

there are probably hundreds of thousands of activities stuck in the system though, so maybe they’re throttling capacity to trickle them all through? DOn’t know if that’s even technically possible or not, just a theory.

Couple more activities from weekend just come through, trickle seems to be the appropriate word.

Well Garmin IS SHITTING ITS PANTS for me today! Went out for a 2h bergen run, GPS acquired, off we go; after 10 mins I notice no distance or ascent recorded, did a ‘resume later’ and again said green on GPS. Anyway, nothing doing, just HR & time. Then when I went to save the session, it got stuck in the “Saving” screen and I had to do a hard reset and lost the session completely. All I got was steps & calories on the tracker. Hey ho.

But Garmin has generally been shit for me this last 9 months for reliability. On the plus side, my new Altberg boots gave me no issues at all :+1:

yeah i’ve seen quite a few people on my Strava loading up half runs/rides as their Garmin’s have had special moments and complete meltdowns.

I would expect they are doing something like that. You can’t just turn everything back on in one hit. With 4 days worth of data suddenly hitting your servers at the same time you’ll create a self-inflicted denial of service attack.

It looks like recorded activities are being pulled down from devices, but the other data seems to be taking longer to trickle through (e.g. historic HR, steps, calories, sleep).

I was thinking the hackers were getting no cash, so decided to get Connect to now cause a meltdown on paired devices!

Here’s a brief overview of what is/isn’t working at the moment…

People are reporting that clearing old workouts from the watch fixes that issue for some
