The new Fenix isn’t - 6s. I wear one as my daily watch and I have small girls wrists. Doesn’t look ridiculous.
The pace of product development from Garmin is ridiculous. Feel like I’ve only just got my Fenix 5 and its about to be two generations out of date. Are the really innovating with useful new features or just churning out crap because they have people on the tit now.
Only thing I would upgrade for is music on the device. I like music when I am running or walking and carrying a phone is pain
Just seen that - similar size to the 945, but a bit heavier and the bezel makes it appear larger.
Must be the 6X they have in John Lewis, as that looks mahoosive!
Shame DC Rainmaker doesn’t do the rolling pin test anymore
I have had my Fenix 5 for 4 years now and it is still great for what I need it for but music and maps would be handy.
Think I would go down the 945/955 route for an upgrade now.
Resident Luddite here again:
I still use an ipod shuffle, they haven’t built anything better in my opinion; I hate running with anything in my hand or pockets.
If I break one I have to find a decent second hand one to replace it.
RE: Fenix 7 and 955
Rumours seem to point at CES this week.
So wait until next week
I don’t upgrade anything often so usually always get the latest and greatest at the time. I’ve had the 945 since it first came out and it’s been bulletproof. I wear it daily, am generally outdoors doing stuff, and it still looks like new. The wife has a 245 as a daily watch and it’s the same. You can’t really tell the difference between them so I’d just shoot for the one that matches your requirements if you’re not bothered about additional features.
One feature I thought I’d probably not use is Garmin pay, and I don’t, mostly. But there’s been a couple of times I’ve been out without phone or wallet and needed to buy something and it’s been a handy backstop.
He still does. Just titles it differently
Hoping for some 945 deals next week then
But where’s the rolling pin??
I can only see a massive table of data, which I’ve been using for the Apple Watch, 920XT, 945 and 745.
(DC Rainmaker always reminds me of that analyst who is really bloody good, but just cannot convey the data and it’s meaning in a wider business context, without having to explain everything from scratch)
The pic at the top of the article…
That’s his MO & I guess its clearly working for him. I agree though, I’ve read too many of his articles now to read one in full, just skim, read the last paragraph.
Yeah, when I started back up again, I read loads of them to find the best Tri watch under £200, as I didn’t know if I’d be sticking with it (again) so didn’t want to spend too much.
His recommendation was a Suunto something or other.
It was garbage.
Sold that on eBay, went and bought a 920XT for £100 instead, which should’ve been his recommendation
Think pro triathletes were still using the 920XT in 2018/19?
I’ll be buying the 945/745 s/h, too.
£250 for a barely used 945 on eBay vs £450 new.
That’s unless the 955 is announced and the 945 goes on mad discounts to like £300.
eBay always seems to take ages to catch up with sale prices.
CeX is worth a look as they do a 2 year warranty.
I used the 920XT for years.
My Fenix was a factory refurb. Much cheaper, still has 1 year warranty. This is the 2nd factory refurb I have had and never had an issue with either of them.
Cheers
£295 for a B grade
+1
What are peoples thoughts on training load?
I understand this also comes from Firstbeat technology.
The other half has a Garmin FR235, this has optical HR and doesn’t have Run Dynamics. She would like:
Accurate HR
Cadence recorded not from wrist movements (since she sometimes runs with a buggy)
Is there an HR strap that would pick up cadence for a watch without Run Dynamics?
A basic HR strap with a foot pod would work, but might not be best solution if she were to upgrade the watch in the future.
Annoyingly according to Amazon I bought a Garmin foot pod in 2017 (I don’t recall this) and I’m sure I had another one much earlier. I have no idea where either of them are.
How about Garmin’s HRM Run? Garmin HRM Run USED AND SANITISED 010-10997-12 FLASH SALE | eBay
Looks like it supports cadence HRM run chest strap - Forerunner 230/235 - Running/Multisport - Garmin Forums
