Garmin questions

Did you get a HRM with it? The one I have will works with the watch to track additional run dynamics:

You can add power as well, but it requires an IQ app Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin

I don’t find the power useful but I just record it, in case I find it useful in the future and want to compare.

I add this IQ app as one of my running screens and it logs the power https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/9ff75afa-d594-4311-89f7-f92ca02118ad

The recovery advisor thing seems a bit annoying to me. I have one on the 735XT and also on the Edge 530 but they never speak to each other.

DCR said it’s a feature that’s held on the device and not within connect but if I’ve spent a week running, using TrainerRoad / Zwift then go out for a cycle, the Edge only sees me as having done excercise once that week. Same with the watch in similar circumstances.

Surely it wouldnt be too hard to programme connect to download recovery times to each device. :man_shrugging:

WOW :exploding_head:
Nah. I don’t use a fancy HRM or power pod :man_shrugging:t4:

I watch my cadence and “form” (which is now zero as
I’m not running)

Thing is - can I broadcast my HR from wrist based watch to Zwift?

Isn’t it more ‘don’t train hard until this period has passed’ ?

My Fenix 5 plus and Edge 530 seem to have a common recovery period

Sort of yeah, basically it’s saying you won’t be up to peak performance until around x hours, and as you get closer it moves from “take a break” to “easy stuff” to “get off your ass you’re detraining!”

More worthless stats and features that tell you nothing.

You have to enable Physio True Up on both devices to get the recovery and Vo2 max data to sync

Yes, Menu, settings, sensors & accessories, wrist HR, broadcast.

Cheers :+1:t3:

I think starting a Virtual Run or Virtual Bike does that too, at least on my fenix 6s

Might be that the 735 doesn’t have that option, it may be due to it’s age.

Can’t see it in Connect either for TR / Zwift sopresume the best bet is to record all data on one device

Seems the specs says it does have it, but the reality is only the basic True Up is available on the 735

I don’t have those as presets on my fenix 5, but yes you can set it to come on auto with an activity in the activity settings even if not.

Personally I don’t use it - the output of Zwift isnt reliable data to me. I don’t think anyone is synching data well enough to maintain a consistent system. I record treadmill/indoor bike on Garmin, and connect things to TR/Zwift/Rouvy etc separately.

Worked an absolute treat that did :grinning:
I can give my chest a rest from being attacked by a HR strap now

Slightly off topic, but see that SRAM has just bought Hammerhead. I have been using Hammerhead Karoo 2 for past 6 months (after frying my Garming Edge 1030 on electric fence). Hammerhead is far better than Garmin

Yeah i saw that. Aren’t they the size of a small caravan though?

In what way are they better? That’s not a dig, just genuine curiosity as to what features the Karoo has that the Garmin doesn’t, or is it down to UI and user friendliness?

The Karoo2 is no bigger than my Edge 1030

How is it better?
Screen is clearer and has more fields
Navigation is infinately better, its strange as Garmin comes from a navigation company, but I really don’t like routing in the 1030
Garmin takes an eternity to calculate routes, karoo is almost instant
Karoo doesn’t crash
UI doesn’t feel like it is 20 years old
Karoo was much cheaper than the 1030 plus

There are some features that are better on Garmin, for example Karoo doesn’t have a lap feature. Another thing that is better on Garmin is autopause, on the karoo it is set globally for all profiles, on the Garmin it is unique to a profile, so on my MB profile, Autopause is off, for commuting I have it set at 5kph, and for club ride set as pause when stopped
