Garmin questions

I dismissed that notification yesterday when it came up.

Wasn’t listed so I created it…

Ha ha, I just set that up too , that’s how I knew it was seven weeks away

I normally wear my chest strap whilst running to capture my heart rate. Tried the optical HRM on the wrist (which I’ve not had much success with in the past) today when I went out for a very easy run with MrsF.

After our two mile run/walk…

Has anyone seen / taken the plunge with Garmin new sleep band?

I’m weirdly intrigued by it, even though I know it’s a simple competitor for Whoop.

Interesting. Like the look of that.

Mr is still attached to his Whoop but I ditched mine a couple of years ago. They’ve also gone to a tiered subscription model which I don’t really like.

It looks pretty large on the model.

That’s interesting. Is it more ‘lifestyle tracking’ as opposed to performance based?

And @Doonhamer, I thought the same. Or the model is absolutely tiny.

No, very much performance based. A significantly better sleep tracking (more detail and precision) than the current offering on Garmin connect with the watch tracking. Which I’m assuming this will aim to fill the gap.

I read it as only being worn to sleep. So yes it is a bit chunky but probably more a supple “sleeve” than the hard blob that is the Whoop hardware.

It sounds like you guys have looked into it more than me & are also more familiar with the Whoop.

DCR is very impressed with the Garmin tracker & although not competing with Whoop yet it seems to have the bones to do so shortly.

I got given a whoop with 1 year subscription. Haven’t activated it yet. Feeling a bit CBA about it. Anyone found any benefit from wearing one?

Garmin Enduro on the other hand (figuratively and literally) is excellent. Can’t believe the battery life- months on one recharge!

My running doctor friend is trying one out and isn’t sure either. She does acknowledge the sleep accuracy is very good.

I wouldn’t say there’s a “benefit” because everything it tells you, you probably already know but if you like data then it’s got a lot to give you. I would say it does need a good 6 weeks (or more) to “learn” you and start to show trends and what really impacts you or not. It has continued to improve the data provided and the accuracy of it of since it launched.

My watch clearly isn’t great at tracking sleep, I know I woke up at 3:15 and hardly got another hour after that but it says I slept well

Kind of intrigued by it as well but is it a subscription service on top of the cost of the band?

The full review says it isn’t but no info to say with it will be in the future.

The whoop? Mine came with 1 year subscription, but to activate it it looked like you need to register a credit card and agree to ongoing subscription at about £200 per year after that. Very much doubt I’d want to carry on after 1 year & have form for forgetting to cancel stuff like this…

Looking at that review by DCR I guess that when you go to sleep so does the motion sensor in your watch to preserve battery life so short - they always seem long - periods of being awake aren’t recorded…I’m going to guess that the sleep monitor won’t pick these middle of the night pee trips either.

I’m intrigued with what people will do with the data. So it tells you your sleep is poor or you’re waking up. So what? You probably know this already. Why not just go ahead and experiment with making changes that are known to improve sleep? Like exercising using RPE, getting in tune with how you feel will give you plenty of feedback on your sleep quality.

It nudges you to do the right things, you may not be paying attention to.

Go to bed earlier, take an easy day instead of a hard workout, etc etc.

Could you do these things without electronics? Yes…But do you?

Yes :slightly_smiling_face:

Completely agree but telling work to FRO is probably unrealistic for most people :joy:

My sleep will improve at that point! It’s not too bad usually though.

Great, now how about solving that for everyone else? :slightly_smiling_face:
