It’s going in the bin. I’ll stick with wrist based as it is far and away more accurate and reliable.
Now I have to unpick the damage a detected 226 max hr has done to my profile.
Sod it I’ve just deleted it instead.
What a load of nonsense

New release, Whoop equivalent…
Ooh, that looks interesting!
I was thinking about a Whoop, but I’ve got 20 years of Garmin data

DCR did a review but I haven’t had time to read it yet, but I’ll be sticking with my watch to tell me how crap I am ![]()
Exactly the same.
I wear my Garmin watch 24/7, aside from showering. Like the flexibility this gives, and minimalist appearance.
Means I’ll still wear my Garmin for training, and can actually wear a nice watch more frequently.
The lack of subscription is a big plus over Whoop for me too.
I guess that just means that they’re selling my data to insurance companies

FWIW… I had a whoop for a while, and I found the information from it interesting, but I never actually changed any of my habits or actions based on it.
Garmin rant!
My Edge 1040 is super slow to upload courses & rides, like can be 45 minutes of trying to update. I’ve learnt that if I connect it to my PC & do whatever update there is with Garmin Express, usually to the maps, then it works fine.
After going the Express update a few weeks ago it’s gone shit again so this morning I tried to do the Express update & now Express won’t open on the laptop
.
I did too. I don’t miss it. But I may be interested in the Garmin offering. I will catch up with DCR’s review later.
Mr still sticks with Whoop. But he has found they have drastically changed the algorithm this month. Stress score is now almost entirely based on HR which means his “busy” days barely cause a blip. He’s undecided if this is a good or bad thing.
It’s the same reason I’m looking at it.
I also wear my 255 All the time apart from showering so it will be good to have this on my left wrist or a bicep and one of my nicer watches to replace the 255 when I’m not running.
If they added GPS and an altimeter then I wouldn’t need my 255 at all, though doubt they’ll want to kill off the non premium end of the market with this so their addition is unlikely.
This device does have GPS, doesn’t it?
It automatically detects certain activities and I think you can tell it that you’re doing other activities through the app
From what I’ve seen / read it can detect activities but doesn’t have its own GPS, it leverages that from your phone so if you’re doing an outside activity, you’ll need your phone with you to get the map.
Ah OK, that would be no good for me if I ever got back to running because I never ran with my phone
I’d say the same for a Garmin outside of activity tracking (and knowing the time) but others think otherwise ![]()
Big push from Garmin to make Garmin+ worthwhile
It’s heading towards Garmin versus Strava but Strava has better social aspects.
Apple as a niche low grade person on the street doing a bit of exercise.
And guess who the losers will be when they start not talking to each other…
Expect Strava to release a base level smart watch at some point soon - wahoo have the blueprint to a cheap one going spare, don’t they?
Strava sued Garmin earlier this year over segments, which Garmin had first. Then quietly dropped the case.
Likely that Garmin doesn’t think about Strava at all
Bugger it, I’ve bought one.
