It takes time to get into the bugger
NOW YOU TELL ME
I was into my Huub this evening like a cocktail sausage in a Trojan
Lol.
Cock in a sock
Is that fast? Can’t say I’ve ever tried.
No video, but tried on the new Vanquish wetsuit (dry) and thought it a good a time as any to time a full T2 kit change (proper cross threads this!)
Took About 20 minutes to squeeze my 84kg 183cm frame into a Medium - but it fits like my old B70 Helix did
Also feels incredibly similar - thin and flexible.
Super impressed with the feel of it - great under the armpits and shoulders.
Just felt ace, can’t wait to freeze in it on Thursday
Took 43 seconds to get off - dry.
As they’re slippery when wet, I’d expect that to come down.
Right - full kit change time…I had some budgie smugglers and my Huub DS LS Trisuit on over that.
Start!!!
Tri suit off.
Run shorts on.
Running shirt on.
Cap on whilst sitting down.
Left sock, right sock, shoes…
38 seconds. But untied laces.
Again, I fail to see what people do in transition
Wearing underwear under bib shorts or a trisuit/tri bottoms is just strange! That’s not how they’re designed to be worn?
I don’t disagree with the final statement, a swift T1/2 is something I see as free time, but unlike the wetsuit where I agree it will be faster when wet, I think when damp, sweaty and tired, getting old kit off and new kit on will take more time than that. And I would never run a marathon in just a top if it was tight fitting compression. Unless I put nipple protectors on, and that would take ages (/possibly be impossible) when sweaty!
I guess some people just like baggy tops. I hate them I will 99% of the time train in a compression top. I only wear a vest for running races because it’s “what runners wear”.
100% agree!
But I’ve worn my Huub DS Trisuit for three races (113, Outlaw and Helvellyn) and the ass is see through already! (I’ll have done three pre-race kit tests in it, too)
Having paid £100 for it, I need a solution!
I’ll probably go with some 2XU compression shorts.
And yes - T2 will be slower than 38s.
All of my running tops are huge billowing tents - some of us have love handles and a muffin top to cover.
I have those too … can never get rid of them even when down <70kg … but compression tops are just so much nicer, just as cool, and prevent chafing all over. It’s why I actually like running in a tri … it’s acceptable to be wearing a trisuit, unlike in a training session or running event!
I’m a nice rake when <70kg
But that was 8 years ago now
I’m just thinking about comfort and performance, really.
And not being able to see my arse crack
Got my rough nutrition plan, so sticking with just an outline, rather than anything prescriptive.
Going with a 1:9 walk run from the outset (did a 1:35 half marathon last year in Lockdown1.0 doing that)
Doing it that way round so I walk out of T2 and don’t hare off like a lunatic
Might take a look at those Stolen Goat Tri suits @jorgan mentioned and flog the Huub on eBay, as it’s actually imaculate (sic?)
I like the Stolen Goat suit; although it’s nearly 2 years since I last wore it! I did get a longer zip put in it though, for any nature breaks on the run; as it’s fairly short.
Yep. Zone 3 aspire. Snug and comfy - had mine for 4 seasons. Pretty durable. Had to make a few small repairs but more probably to my bad handling than suit itself.
I don’t own a single piece of compression upperwear (in fact i think the only thing i do have are some calf guards that i’ve not worn in years - remember those - and the full length inners on a couple of pairs of shorts!!). I will always choose a lightweight running vest over any other option. I also much prefer my short, split shorts to the shorts with the inners to go with it. I can run fine in a trisuit and tri shorts, but i don’t find them anywhere near as comfy.
I’ve got 2 vests in particular that barely weigh anything, and are my favourite things to exercise in. Unfortunately i’ve never been able to find a replacement for them, as they’re getting a tad old.
Which is probably why retailers have to stock such a wide range of stuff, as we’re all different! Half the time I wear a vest, I will still have a mesh baselayer on underneath to stop chafing. I’d say half my pictures show that in running races. It’s only marathons I don’t, as I then go to the effort of nipple protectors!
Looking back through all my race reviews, it genuinely is only marathons where I havent worn something!
Nice little montage as well.
The hours approaching, just give it your best
You’ve got to reach your prime.
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us a passage of time,
We’re gonna need a montage
montage
YES!!!
What are you chugging @stenard ? Is it a beer mile?
Yep. That was just Heineken. Our club event usually states 330ml cans given the difficulty in getting the officially sized ones in the UK.
This is the full image, taken at the start of the race. It’s quite a cool photo that nicely sums up the club! The guy next to me has won every year we’ve done it. I think I came second that year (edit - I was third that year, second the year after). It’s definitely an event broadly in my wheelhouse. I’ve beaten way faster runners than me.
Good man
I hope you didn’t lose to the fella on your right, there’s a lot of spillage going on there
