I was in the Plattenwirt and remember a few tt 1.0 people there. It was the guy from Tri 247 who told me it was 37 as his wife was racing.
I think it started cooler and got warmer, whereas now it’s a different heat. I don’t remember any worries about no wetsuit although it was my hottest wetsuit swim! Perhaps the rules changed since then?
I was there in 2006 too for my first IM.
The water was definitely too warm, but at that time a non-wetsuit swim was unheard of, so they always found a way of staying under the wetsuit limit.
I got scorched on the bike and it was baking hot on the run.

Austria 2009 was also melting hot at 35+. 2013 was a more manageable high 20s iirc.
I remember the thunderstorm in '09 during the run; it was like running through a steam bath when the sun came back out!
Apparently IM have offered 3 options to the Nice participants.
Transfer to any open race this year, but there’s very few.
Transfer to Nice 2027 which I think I saw is going to be in September?

I’m not sure if the refund is hard currency or credit to a race but that’s not a bad offer and doubt the people at Frankfurt will get offered money off a race.
This is very common for French races. And has been done for all other races cancelled the last couple of weeks. I suspect the insurance structure is a bit different.
Bolton 70.3
"This year’s IRONMAN festival drew a record 10,000 athletes to Bolton, beating the previous record by 2,000, town hall heard as registration opens for next year’s triathlon.
The world-famous athletics festival was held at the start of June, with participants and their supporters from all over the country taking part in the Nightrun, IRONMAN 70.3, and IRONKIDS.
Bolton Council has since revealed that the three events this year have broken previous attendance and sales records.
Cllr Shafaqat Shakh said: "I’d like to place on record my congratulations to the executive member and the officers involved in bringing the IRONMAN to Bolton.
“Events of this scale help put our borough on the map.”
Cllr Shaikh asked for attendance figures and for information on the wider benefits of hosting the IRONMAN festival in Bolton.
In a written response, council cabinet member for culture Cllr Debbie Newall said that the three events had brought more than 10,000 athletes to Bolton, breaking the previous record of 8,000."
I saw that but not sure how many did the 70.3, I’m guessing about a quarter.
Where did they get 10,000 from?..I make it 1600 for the 70.3, and 1100(ish) for the 5k and 10 nightruns

1630 finished the 70.3 so not sure how many started / entered. Cant have been more than about 1750.
Yeah, even with Ironkids, 10k etc not sure how you would get to 10k… maybe they counted supporters, or just cant count.
Having Roth swim in a canal, I wonder if this will be swimmable for an ironman?

It’s likely that athletes = tourists, because they’re only interested in how many people come to the destination for estimating revenue into the hospitality industry
