IM Cascais, Portugal 2021

Thanks guys. Turned into a bit of a nightmare for me. My kids both tested positive for Covid just after I left. Spent the first few days here massively paranoid I’d get it (I’ve tested daily and remained negative-my wife has stayed negative too-guess that’s the vaccine).
All that means that they now can’t come out at all so I’m going to be here for another week after the race while my wife and kids are isolating at home TOTALLY gutted for them (and me). Not the holiday I had been waiting all year for that’s for sure.
My dad and his wife made it here so not a total waste of money and holiday but this kind of thing makes Bolton soundly the more appealing.
Been a nervous wreck the last few days and now desperately trying to get my head back in the game.

Not the week you need pre-race, gutted for you. Hopefully getting into the IM resgistration, etc. will help get your head back into race mode.

Ah man what a disaster.

Do we have any numbers to track them?

Ironman haven’t updated their tracker yet

Bit late, but best of luck both! 70.3 is tomorrow it seems.

159 for @Mr-me, decent swim (1:05) and 6min T1

T1 is massive. A very long jog from swim exit to bike rack so I’d say 6 minutes wasn’t too bad.

Very nice swim though, believe the water is around 16/17 degrees

Yeah even the top AGers were 5-6min… obviously been practicing that 4th discipline!:grin:

we’re tracking the same person Symes…. looks like he’s flying on the bike leg too!

He was due at Kona this weekend iirc, guess he’s carried some form from earlier in the season

hah! IM tracker sets new standards for incompetence…. according to that bastion of accuracy and reliability, current leader in M50-54 is averaging 54.37mph….

That’s Maurten for you, plus the power of the crowd

#1169 for me.

Doing my best Athlete impression. Last two nights have been boozy and late  Currently sat on the platform mildly hungover waiting for the train to Cascais. Hopefully a nap and a semi decent night’s sleep will sort me out for tomorrow. Top prep. Did manage an 8km run yesterday morning.

Hostel owner was a legend and let me leave the bike box there even though I’m not staying there anymore.

This is how you do foreign triathlon right?!
