IM Copenhagen 2020/21/22/23

I’m not so optimistic, tbh. Flirting with the idea of withdrawing and receiving 50% refund before 16 April cutoff and using the money to treat the family once this crisis has passed. Copenhagen was my 2nd choice anyway - wanted to do Lanza but timing wasn’t right for me. Will probably go for Lanza next year… assuming Ironman survive this. Not every company could withstand their entire service offering being cancelled for a 6 month period. That’s gotta hurt £££.

Currently thinking it’s unlikely the event will go ahead but maybe travel will be opened up again by then, in that case I’ve got a hotel and flights with bike booked on so I might go for a long weekend with a bit of cycling involved and take the likely deferral to 2021 option. If all flights are cancelled too then it’ll go towards our trip to the US in September, which also probably won’t go ahead, along with our week in Lanza in late May, fucking bat eating twats

As my passport had run out, I had not booked any flights and my accommodation can be cancelled at no cost. Will give it a little while but seriously considering withdrawing and then focussing on ‘21. Will wait it out a little while longer.

I’m still hoping it’ll go ahead, it’s a long way until August and a lot can change. I’d been telling myself this was the last long distance tri I’d do for a few years so I’m really reluctant to postpone to 2021 unless that’s the only option. Until we get a bit closer it’s all speculation really.

I’ve got to decide in the next day or two whether…

A] I carry on training hard, hoping it’ll still happen, and I can get the time/result I want

B] To back right off and just get back to some exercising for fun

C] Ease up, and if it happens, still have done enough for a ‘just get round’

Genuinely don’t know which path to take yet.

Tbh it’s not like there is lots of other things I’m going to be doing. So at least by continuing training I have a focus.

I guess, the reality is if closer to the time it looks like cancellation/postponement is likely I’ll probably do option B & C.

Yes, I think that’s where I am. Copenhagen’s about giving it my best shot, having got round other events. Trying to stay positive and will keep ticking over for the time being.

Yes I am still going with option A (though I can no longer swim) Tbh I need the training as a relief from wfh which I know is going to start doing my head in.

Also if I stop training I will turn into a bloater

Well reminded. My passport runs out in May. Not that I had any foreign trips planned this year, not having one would be remiss!

A BLUE ONE!!!

THEY ARE BLACK!

Mine’s still red, ffs. The one benefit, taken away from me. They must have known I was a remoaner.

From the Danish PM yesterday;

“Meanwhile, it was bad news for bigger events, which have been banned until the end of August. The specifics of that will be revealed later, said Frederiksen.”

Wonder if they will try for a September date ? Probably not and it will be a 2021 race but just may be. The problem is that if IM aren’t going to make an announcement until 50 days before, that is a long time to still not know what is happening.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of other countries didn’t follow this.

I’d have thought it would be getting a bit cold in Denmark in September as well?

“The specifics of that will be revealed later, said Frederiksen”

I think they’re going to have to be very specific to force Ironman to announce anything, otherwise like @JD-Scarabtri said - we’ll probably just hear about it 50 days prior.

Gone!

Only because the danish PM said no major events until after Aug. They haven’t said it won’t be rearranged so keeping us in the dark. Just got an email confirming which advises to contact your travel co. But they won’t do anything until you cant officially travel. Accommodation cost probably lost, need to check the small print. Unless it can all be transferred to whenever it is rearranged or until Aug 2021 (that’s a long way off)

I took the decision about a week or so ago to withdraw (I can’t defer as I am doing Comrades next year). The refund came through yesterday. I think that if you want to withdraw and do it by the 16th (4 months to go) then you get 50% of the entrance fee back. They also pay in full any additional purchases that you made at the time (engraving etc). I have applied to get my airfares back but not heard anything yet. The hotel had free cancellation so that wasn’t an issue

Yes, I withdrew last week too. Would of hung on and deferred to next year, but it doesn’t work out for me, family wise. Gutted for all you guys who were hanging on.
