I really don’t want to go there. Guess could have been some sort of seizure, or maybe a religious ritual, or maybe he just killed his wife. I’m not going to ask.
My foot really hurts

Weirdness. My area of expertise. I reckon he was angry at the noise.
Right, £200 please.
If you can fix my foot too I’ll make it £400
It’s all in your mind. Hit yourself in the other foot real hard and the pain will almost disappear!
I think you win Tritalk today
Any recommendations from the collective wisdom here on ways to speed up healing a sprained ankle? Mine’s being a recalcitrant little so-and-so.
Missed a step leaving the chippy on Friday and it’s got much better but is still sore especially when walking down stairs.
So far I’ve been doing hot and cold packs to try and improve blood flow (assuming that’s actually a thing?)
Have you tried a compression bandage wrap or support to help stabilise it while you are walking around?
Hmmm, I’d not. Sounds like it might be worth a shot though, I was hoping it would have sorted itself by now.
In a bid to start the process of running agin, I spent 30 minutes yesterday working on my left ankle, Achilles and calf. Heel drops, soleus stretches and ankle flexibility exercises. My aim is to do something daily and see if I can start to remove the discomfort from the area.
Just had my initial physio assessment which was really positive. He seemed confident my injury is treatable through massage, strengthening and stretching. The main issue is it’s chronic so it will probably be quite a while before I can run again, but can’t say I mind. I haven’t run for over 18 months anyway. Another few months is not going to be an issue.
That’s positive!
Left achilles tendonitis has returned, managed to go for a month without issue but on today’s run it’s flared up again after about 2.5 miles. No idea why, same running shoes, same pace, same terrain as the previous runs from 3 to 8 miles. Might just stop the running for 6 weeks until the race (assuming it happens) and give it as much rest rather than upsetting it again. Pissed off.
Didn’t want to post here
But it seems that I’ve got a really sore spot on my left hamstring that’s got progressively worse on my left hamstring. It’s on the outside, right down towards the knee. I’m pretty sure it’s where I got quite a severe bout of cramp in the last 500m. Don’t know if it’s possible to have done damage from that, or if it’s the other way around?
It seems to be right down where the muscle turns into the tendon. Hoping it’s just a g1 year or something.
Got to ride to work now, so I guess I’ll find out how debilitating it is in an hour or so!
Seem to have gotten myself into a bit of a mental state. Definitely some niggles happening lately, my knee wasn’t happy on Saturday but manageable and had some slight pain in my hip (again, seemed ok).
Since then, I’ve felt my knee twinge a bit on the stairs and my hip has been problematic sleeping. I’m doing some strength and dynamic stuff to try and address but haven’t run since Saturday (or done anything).
Endure 24 is 12 days away and I seem a bit mentally paralysed between resting more and letting things die down and getting out there to keep things ticking over.
aaargggh
@FatPom I would have thought rest and stretching would be more beneficial at the moment but understand your frustration.
Yeah, I realise I wouldn’t be gaining fitness or anything, it’s just that horrible feeling of I should be doing ‘something’ as it feels way too long for a taper.
I guess SDW100 DNF is still ringing in my ears.
What about a bit of walking/powerwalking?
I had that thought this morning actually. GB once told me that 100% walking sessions are very underrated for ultras.
I do tend to be ‘all or nothing’ with training and go from running/riding to being completely sedentary at home whilst working.
Still not right with this groin & stomach problem after it flared up a week or two ago so down to hardly any running.
But, I’ve been to see a chiropractor in Manchester for a few treatments and need to get 2 more corrections in the coming weeks. A friend went a few years ago about a completely different problem but had a lot of progress from it, and went back for a few more sessions just before Covid last year.
He did a few x-rays which showed a few possible problems, there’s a bit of a curve in my mid-upper back, the top few vertebrae in my neck needed some correction and as people have said before my hip area is out of alignment which is probably causing my problems.
It’s a bit nervy getting your neck cracked but after the first few treatments the neck seemed a bit looser and easier to move, I don’t think looking at my mobile phone helps though, or computer screen!
He did say doing it during the season when I’m training isn’t great but due to being reasonably fit I should recover from the actual treatments fairly quickly.
It’s not cheap, he’s one of 2 practioners of it in the country but I’m at the point where it’s worth a go.
Hardly ran recently, it would help if I could get a regular massage as well. Hopefully when the students come back I can get booked in there.
So the left knee - no running since February, on and off swelling and pain, and not too much cardio (well, just bike and swim - that’s not much to us triahtletes, right?!). That’s for 5 months or so.
So this weekend, my perfect (and I really mean that, and I know that not all are suited to hot climes) weather, so thought f*&^ it, I’m 57, not getting any younger, if I want to go out and pose in my trisuit whilst on my sexy bike, then so be it, silly knee.
So there I am, 1.75 hard hours Friday climbing up to Lowther Hill radar station, about 700odd metres up there, Sat, nice slow 1.25 miles, and yesterday steady 3+ hours.
Guess what, hardly any pain, anything. What’s all that about? Suited to hot weather?
Seeing specialist this Thu, so want to get a run in Wed eve, but could be embarrassing if due to this glorious hot weather, there’s no swelling or pain, hmmmmmmm
