I’m less crippled than I expected to be today after racing yesterday, I did 40K running last week, that’s pretty much marathon training for me
I’ve been doing a lot of those stretches over the last month to 6 weeks.
Pigeon pose is a good one too
It is not good. It bloody well hurts.
Ah I love it. Can properly feel it in my hips
I only start swearing at Adriene when she pulls that rear foot up. Christ that’s a killer
This reminds me. I need to get back on it.
Opted out of yoga this lunchtime and had a nap instead. Might do 20 mins this eve.
I’ve done 20 minutes just before bed for the past 3 evenings. Perfect for me
My hips are feeling ok after my slow plod last night. A few weeks ago that wouldn’t have been the case. I’m definitely sticking with it
trotter alert
Not meant to look like this
Stubbed it on a step, while going to get my bike out today. Stupidly was just wearing socks, ready to put bike shoes on.
Was planning to do a long run tomorrow, not 100% sure now. Will see how it feels in the morning. Hope this doesn’t derail half mara training too much.
2nd bout of knee injections yesterday, dextrose. Have to say, slowly slowly, I am deffo seeing some improvement (placebo?), will be out running end of Sept. Postponed previously, but hanging on since last run Feb is a tad frustrating, developed world issues and all that.
Was there tears? It’s so painful
No tears but some Anglo Saxon
Well, the whizz bang physio has been and left. He stayed about an hour. (a very painful hour!)
Did some tests and confirmed that whilst my right side isn’t that strong, my left side is incredibly weak
He’s pretty concerned about the right knee pain that I get sometimes and I have very audible crepitus coming from there. He suspects a possible lateral meniscus tear but not 100%
The right hip and whole LTF region needs strengthening and he’s putting a program together for that.
On the left, again, very weak LTF but he strongly suspects also a bursa issue there. He’s putting something together for that as well. He was incredibly thorough and did the lateral hip and extended leg strength test with were quite laughable really and in his words ‘not very good’.
He suspects it could be the back surgery chickens coming home to roost but is generally positive that concentrating on a strength program will see a an improvement with the imbalance I have.
Running is allowed but only to the extent that body doesn’t forget what to do and have to start again, so something like 3 x 6km per week. Cycling ok but not excessive.
bah humbug
Sounds like a good person to see though. Stick to the program. It sounds like he/she will get you moving again.
Strengthening sounds like the best plan to me. I admit I haven’t checked over the last couple of years but there is no correlation between crepitus and tissue damage.
I had a good news, bad news weekend. I have been getting a lot of pain from my Morton’s neuroma on the bike for the last couple of months. I bought a pair of Pedag Viva Sport insoles that have a small bump around the tarsometatarsal joints and it seems to have done the trick. Over 3 hours Saturday pain free. I have tried similar ones before but the bum in those were too big to be comfortable.
But at some point Saturday night, I moved in my sleep in a way that caused absolute agony in the knee I tore a meniscus in last December and has been quite sore since. Tried a run yesterday but only managed 350m before I stpped for a pianful walk home. Back to regular walks for the next couple of days and should be good to run again.
Thanks for the info. I hope you get back to running soon.
do you know if they’re any good for running/walking? Mrs FB has a Morton’s neuroma which give her grief when on her feet for a long time. she’s tried various insoles without success but not these
Sorry fb, I really don’t know. Oddly it never bothers me running and walking only when I have thin soled, smart shoes on, so I tend to avoid that. I have tried a couple of different pairs like this but as I mentioned above the bump was big enough to be too uncomfortable to wear. If you give them a try, I ordered a size UK 8/ Euro 42 and they fit perfectly into my (wide fit) Fizik shoes (also Euro 42).
I did briefly try some vivo barefoot type shoes but walking around on pavement in them was a really bad idea.
ok ta. I’ll let Mrs FB have a look at them and see what she thinks
When will I ever frigging learn. Foot sore after Ultra Run, but seems OKish so I go for a run. Metatasalgia in my left foot this time, at least it doesn’t feel like a stress fracture that I had last time
Have been running in my racing flats for a few days now rather than my Pegs and my ankle appears to be much better. Maybe it’s been the shoes causing all the grief around the Achilles/ankle and maybe it will now sort itself out. Will keep the runs short (this won’t be hard!) and most on treadmill and fingers crossed the old body starts to recover.
Minor spill from bike this afternoon
Out for a wee bimble with one of the boys, he asked me what our average speed was. I didn’t have bike computer, just a watch. While changing screens to find out, clipped his rear wheel and toppled straight off into the grass verge.
Left knee took the full force, luckily soft grass & av speed was only 26kmh.
Bit bruised but nothing too bad.
Still getting over a bust toe on same leg, again a minor inconvenience but with a half marathon in 2 weeks, hoping no more bumps or scrapes please
