Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

Cheers fella. Will look into it. Really need something to follow.

My plantar fasciitis is getting worse. It seemed to be better for a day after I walked on the treadmill barefoot, not sure there is a correlation there.

Been doing stretches and I read something about heel raises helping. I have flat feet and have used orthotics for years, mine are very worn so I probably need some new ones.

Anyone know anything about this

Bit sceptical, I had shockwave therapy from a proper machine on bicep tendinitis and did FA.

ETA - apologies for the inadvertent trotter pic there. They arent mine though

I’ve just got back from an appointment with an orthopaedic consultant to look at my collarbone. It’ll be 6 weeks on wednesday since I had my accident and I wasn’t massively comforted by the service I was getting from the NHS so I’ve tapped into my work Bupa. I’ve had pretty much no pain from it and it feels like it’s back to normal now, with full mobility restored and I can put load through my arm without any discomfort. Really, I just wanted reassurance that it was healing OK so that I can get back on my bike. I’m supposed to be riding London to Paris in 2 weeks time.

It was a kind of a bad news/good news type meeting.

The bad news is that X-rays that they took today still show that the collarbone is still very much in 2 pieces. The doctors is booking me in for a CT scan to get a clearer image of the situation, but it’s likely that I will need an operation to fix it properly at some point in the future.

The good news is that the doctor said there was no reason why I couldn’t get back out on my bike again. He’d actually assumed that I already was riding again. As long as there’s no discomfort while I’m riding then I’m good to go.

Obviously I’m keen to get straight out there and do some last minute training for London to Paris.

Mrs W is a bit more dubious about it, so I think I’m going to have to approach things more slowly, putting some pressure through it on the turbo over the next few days and then testing it on the road at the weekend.

It just seems a bit strange that I’ve got a broken bone that’s not fixing itself, but there’s no rush to have an op to fix it if it’s not bothering me. What’s the point of the bone in the first place :man_shrugging:

Where’s the warning man :foot:t4::foot:t4::foot:t4:

That’s up there with trotter shots.
I feel all weak just looking at that.

Also…your DOB and BUPA account number are on that image :+1:t3:

I think the first thing you loose is speed. Even a week has an effect, as for endurance prob takes a while longer for that to dissipate … well that’s what a mate told me anyway

For real? X-rays are cool, at least they kinda make sense unlike ultrasound pics. I’m reasonably certain no one can decipher ultrasound images and they just make up a prognosis based upon some weird medic-bingo game.

Can neither confirm or deny :upside_down_face::speak_no_evil:

Best explanation I ever read for the collar bone was in a Jack Reacher book: it’s a circuit breaker. It snaps so that your arm doesn’t.

Don’t actually think this is correct btw, but it’s a neat explanation even if completely wrong.

Hope you mend quick @Whisk and get some good advice about the best course of action.

Interesting site for the fracture though.

My quad has gone very tight, it feels like classic hamstring but I really hope not.

We asses next week but based on how it is now, starting the Plague is not looking certain :slightly_frowning_face:

Yeah hope so mate. Gonna back right off and do a test run next week. No way I’m driving to Cornwall in the heat for a ā€˜I probably shouldn’t be starting’

Has to be a sure thing.

Just a bit of an update on my knee post surgery. It will be 2 weeks on Friday since surgery and I have to say recovery has been slower than I would like probably because until this week I have been putting too much weight on it so it’s still been quite painful on the op site. But having put my feet up more this week and Mrs FB walking the dog, it’s started to improve quite quickly now - who would have guessed that would work eh? Durr!

Anyway, Mrs FB is going to take the 2 stitches out - can’t see a reason to do a 60 mile round trip to the hospital for this simple procedure.

Having managed to sort out the inside of my left shin with physio and building back to good running, 10miles in tonight I started getting a stabbing pain on the outside of my right ankle. Can barely put weight on it. Wonder if I’ve been running a bit differently to not put pressure on my left side and this is the consequence. Hopefully it just needs a few days to settle down…

Right then, physio booked in for next Tuesday (earliest i can get in) to see her for this troublesome calf.

Best thing is my employee benefit thing kicks in now, so i have Ā£150 towards therapy treatments for the year at the freebie, basic level that i get with my job. That’s pretty handy, and covers almost 4 physio sessions. I tend to average once or twice a year normally, so that’ll help nicely.

Tempted to upgrade it to Level 2 which is Ā£7 a month more, and bumps the therapy up to Ā£250. That way i can use physio as a slightly more preventative measure rather than when i’m just broken. I can get me some homeopathy as well

Sounds like a no brainer for Ā£7 p/m mate, especially as you’re getting on a bit now
