If I pinch along the ‘knuckle’ of the toe/s, I can feel it a bit but nothing like when I put side pressure on it.
You can get them in your hand. With the hand it can be quite easy to put pressure on a nerve and give similar symptoms, especially with prolonged pressure like cycling, maybe the on the moto too? It could be from higher up the nerve too.
Ah great, thanks ![]()
Mrs FB has had a Morton’s neuroma for many years - she had the original removed by surgery but it has since returned so she’s decided to live with it. Symptoms are as @pacha describes.
With the hand issue it maybe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?? The tendon sheath around the wrist gets compressed and puts pressure on the median nerve feeding the hand and usually shows up as tingling in the little finger to start with.
That’s a good point FB, I hadn’t thought of that. Mrs FP had to have that surgery on both wrists (at different times) as it was too painful for her to hold LO back when she was breastfeeding. It’s very common in new Mums apparently.
She had it done on the NHS but both times were in a private hospital.
New injury.
Top of the hamstring / just below the glute. Felt vulnerable all week, but went away when warmed up.
Not today. On the treadmill, went after a few minutes.
Anyone got any idea what it is?
Hamstring tendinopathy. Sounds classic. Strength based rehab
If you lie on your back, bring your knee to your chest and straighten your leg would expect that to be provocative test, or single leg glute bridges, or things that flex your hip such as running up hill, low chairs.
I don’t have any actual experience with them so others might be along to give better advice ± teach me better protocols so I’ll throw my 2c in and (assuming you aren’t about to see a proper practitioner in person instead of a pretend internet one)
A good starting point for Isometrics: Static holds in glute bridge with relatively straight legs, only very small knee bend. Start with weight equal for both legs, when you can manage 5x45s with a minute rest with <5/10 discomfort start progressing to putting more weight on the affected side
Then can gradually start building in strengthening exercises: hamstring curls, isolated glute work
Then next stage would be to start working the hamstring whilst Increasing hip flexion - IE hip thrusts, lunges (shallow at first but getting deeper), split squats etc
Good chance you’d be able to keep running (avoiding hills) at low intensities once pain is stable and not getting worse each session, but sounds like might require initial bit of time off while get control of it ![]()
Thanks @Chriswim, that’s really helpful.
Quick google suggests that’s the injury, and I’ll try and get into a physio this week.
It isn’t too bad at the minute, so hopefully I’ve caught it in time.
Mine seems to be a bit lower down and slightly to the left. I’ll try a few of those as well, also trying other things.
It’s still very minor and I want to keep it that way.
Going to try and get a massage this week.
Physio last night.
Diagnosis is a new one on me. IT band has basically fused onto the hamstring.
30 minutes of torture later manipulating and pressing various trigger points, it seems much better.
doesn’t sound physiologically possible for it to fuse to the muscles and for someones hands to unfuse them.
Rolls eyes
Eh?
I read at dissappointment that a physio told you that was their diagnosis.
I cannot see how it is possible. If it were bale to fuse it must have to take a long time to do so, connective tissue doesn’t adapt rapidly. The flip side of that being that if they had fused, ‘un-fusing’ them couldn’t be done from outside the body IMHO.
Been struggling with a muscle issue since Sunday. I think it was camping bed sightly too soft on Sat night.
I think it may be a tight piriformis, but not sure. It’s in that area. I did 90 mins in tt position on the turbo, and that didn’t make it worse. And I swam for an hour today. Again, that was OK. But it’s got worse and worse today during the day. Swimming? Sat in the car and an uncomfortable chair for 2 hour meeting?
It’s sore when I walk. Really sore when I bend down. Really can’t work it out. It’s like a real pinching type pain.
Sorry, bad explanation. But any ideas?
Difficult to know from that TBH but don’t try and stretch it. Keep moving as much as you can.
Oh no, the ‘eh’ was directed at @Chriswims eye roll!

Me too. Not that I’m in any way an expert, so if it was a different explanation I’d be really interested to learn. But I just don’t buy that explanation or release. Have you been provided with any more information about it, or found other things online saying the same?
I can certainly ask, as I’d like to know more.
May all be psychosomatic, but the injury has felt a lot better since treatment on my IT Band.
Even managed a little run this morning. Still felt awkward, but definitely no pain.
