Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

On pelvic misalignment- I trained as an osteopath and it is a real favourite amongst osteos and chiros. I can do the techniques to re-align it, cracking the SI joint. It feels great to have that cracked IMO but it does nothing to alignment of the pelvis. Several studies have shown this, and importantly none have shown otherwise. Same.with the spine.

Your leg strength imbalance seems are more sound cause to me. Have you ever tried to do a long plan of strengthen the weaker leg? It is a long time since I read around this but I remember it being fairly normal for legs to be producing different power but as the cyclist starts working harder the difference reduces.

I can’t really make my mind up either way about the misalignment, I can’t imagine many people are perfectly symmetrical and I’d guess after all these years my body would probably adapt to it.

So, either I’m getting to the stage where I reach a limit before something goes, or as you say it’s down to muscle imbalances. I don’t think I’ve ever had a plan for all the related muscles but when I do certain exercises either that area is definitely weaker or something is causing issues as I seem to cope more on the other side. Maybe this is the key as I get older.

I’ve convinced myself that I have some kind of bone injury.

The pain I got from the bike crash ten days ago hasn’t gone away. Top of the thigh where I landed on it. No bruises showing but painful getting up and starting walking.

I can swim bike run and lift okay.

Get yerself to minor injuries, get it checked out

Not sure if it’s the same everywhere, but when I went to minor injuries at Guys to get checked out after my bike crash last year, they asked me what I thought I’d injured and said if it was my hip they wouldn’t be able to x-ray it there and I’d have to go to A&E at St Thomas’s :man_shrugging:

Yes, I can’t face a hospital trip. The eight hours mental torture last time put me off for life.

I have a remote GP service I’m trying to use.

Got an odd pain in my foot. In this area below. Dont worry you know me, no trotter shots, a diagram. Circle where the pain is.

But what is odd is I am guessing its some of tendinitis but it comes and goes. This morning went for a walk and it was really painful and couple of times was limping. Walked to the shop couple of hours later and it barely hurt at all.

Anything to do beyond the usual rest etc?

I have been having something similar to this and I think that it might be a combination of some slight foot swelling and my trainers were too tight. I have adjusted my laces which has helped. As always with me it also comes from tightness elsewhere which is where my sports masseur comes in. Tbh I still haven’t totally got rid of it. As I am WFH three days a week I rarely wear any shoes / slippers etc around the house. This seems to help too

I’ve managed to build up to 6K today, run was pain free, the glute and area has been a bit achy afterwards but possibly a combination of the run, sitting on my arse and the strength work I’ve been doing.

Went to see someone last week, definitely someone I trust and he races (very quickly) himself so knows that we don’t want to be out any longer than necessary. Anyway, part of his conclusion which has also been mentioned before is weak glutes, particularly the left which again causes most of the other muscles above\below etc. to overcompensate for it, until they’ve had enough.

Anyway, generally said the exercises I’d been doing were good and offered a couple of tweeks and additions, so I’m carrying on with them and will keep it very easy with the running, tops 3 times PW and not sure I’ll go over 6K just yet unless it really feels strong.

Very slow process but hopefully the strengthening will help, just need to keep it up long-term.

Good to hear, @jeffb.

If it’s any consolation I’ve been doing a lot of glute work to sort out the IT Band issues. I genuinely think they are making a positive difference and made me realise how poor mine were to begin with.

Good luck with it!

Encouragingly - a bad Achilles strain a year or so ago doesn’t register anymore. I’ve neglected calf strengthening exercises last few months so I do feel some weaknesses on steep inclines running when I’m fatigued - but I know the warning signs now. And the main reason for injury was not resting after a marathon. I’m not 36 anymore :frowning:

Main concern is from a hamstring tear in 2021. Still feel some weakness/ tightness there. Tends to settle down after a few weeks of concerted running focus.

Keeping my eye on it though - Prob needs to do some of the strength stuff my physio gave me again

Trapped brachial nerve, feels like someone is constantly squeezing my bicep and tricep. Fortunately as I have no desire to swim so it is not stopping me from training just gardening and decorating jobs have been delayed until I recover……

Ouch. Never had one there but have had trapped nerves in other places and they can be really painful and annoying.

Anyone know anything about retinal migraines?

Optician diagnosed. No other symptoms, just bits of my vision disappear, then come back 20-30mins later.

Never had a diagnosis before but it happened two or three times when I was a teenager. Reoccurred once in July and August so far.

I suffer from migraines and I get ā€˜ice pick headaches’ but having some of your vision disappearing for 20-30 mins sounds very serious. What happens if you’re driving?

I haven’t driven for quite a while so more a concern for cycling and working - reading and talking to people becomes really weird.

Get it checked out mate, that sounds like no joke.

I get them from time to time - purely affects vision in one eye for about 30mins - but haven’t figured out what triggers them. The vision doesn’t disappear totally but you get a kaleidescope look in the eye so it’s blurred.

I have had them while driving - best option is to sit it out until vision returns.

Not explored them with GP or optician as they haven’t impacted on my life so far and not frequent enough to worry about imho.
