Been there, had the Op. I had thought I had pulled my Hamstring. My knees sometimes gave way and hurt. But never recovered. Physio, Dr and surgeon all had a look and said the only way was to operate. So that’s what happened. Big tear removed.
Was told that cycling will strengthen all the supporting muscles around the knee which helps a lot without damaging it any more. Running was not recommended in any way and should be avoided.
Just train and race one more marathon then.

The rib pain is easing a bit but still pretty painful. My head and sinuses have been ‘not right’ all day. In bed now, so hoping for a better sleep later.
little update from my spill on 10th Oct. All road rash has healed although some pink scars. Hope they’ll fade but that’s just vanity.
Low back 80% better, can run properly now.
Cycling no problem.
Main issue is right shoulder which still is not happy being raised overhead, which is a problem for swimming. This is entirely self inflicted, expect if I had not stupidly stuck to my long term plan of swimming a 50 x 50 set on my birthday exactly 1 week later, it would be fine now. It was settling but that really did it no favours.
Unfortunately I have a race on Friday, I’m going to bite the bullet and do it even though I know if will probably set things back a bit more. Think it’s known as “being your own worst enemy” although maybe not if you count Greta
Don’t want to be the bearer of bad news and you should realise this but when I had a stupid fall on my mtb at 5kph in 2019 i jarred my shoulder and it took ages to recover properly.
It was a few weeks before Nice 70.3 WC as well and I hardly swam until the race.
Having said that the fall was in slow motion but while I was heading towards the ground I clearly thought I was going to break the collarbone but luckily didn’t!
it’s not been the best year for injury here. Have been so lucky up until this point with no problems. But this year a bad sprain ankle in April, a creaky knee over the summer and now this daftness. Hopefully that’s my lot, am going to try hard to stay upright on Friday. In fact that’s my A goal, finish time is very secondary
Impact injuries are easier to write off against overuse type injuries though?
One is from doing too much, the other tends to be incompetence
Ribs still aren’t right but it’s easing. can’t see me making athletics tonight but we’ll see.
I have an extended eye test tomorrow, uggh.
Stiff neck for the past few days.
Hurt my glute playing cricket last week and randomly today its got much worse.
Posterior tibial tendon is very pissed off with me today. Running the best/most I ever have, but really doesn’t take much for me to get a running related overload injury. From really badly limping last night this morning, I’ve spent the day intermittently doing different isometrics, and can now walk and even do 1x single leg calf raise.
So hopefully I can get it calmed down quickly and stay in top of it
Very nearly with a list of injuries thought. Front tyre blowout descending at ~60kmh. Very very lucky to be nothing more than a buckled rim
Feeling like crap all day today. Mrs GB has been fighting am illness and my chest was mega tight after running on Wed.
Just don’t have an ounce of energy and had a splitting headache all morning. Initially put it down to the 3 pints I had last night at the pub. But that really wouldn’t have any serious affect on my normally. The fact I’ve ft worse through the day rather than better suggests I’m fighting something.
You might want to do one of those tests. Those are very familiar symptoms.
Getting older?
Well i drank over half a bottle of wine last night and feel much better. So hoping it’s not just age!
Rib pain finally subsiding and then I was struck down with a killer migraine all night. I’m waiting for my nasal spray to settle then going back to bed.
Bloody hell, I feel like a sloth this week.
make sure you cook it properly, don’t want food poisoning too
