Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

I was. But it’s the first time back in a wetsuit after a week swimming in the lovely warm med.

Back in the day on the original forum I lurked more than posted.

I was a shit swimmer & remember having a lot of absolutely unfounded jealousy for someone who had worked hard on their swim position over winter only to have their back ruined by their wetsuit when they started OW.

@awildt , you may be that person for someone now .

You might be right. Having grown up in sunny climes, wetsuit swimming is still “new” to me. I changed wetsuits last year and it could well be the issue now that I have some swimming fitness back. I might have to use my aging, fragile huub one for a bit to get comfortable again. I don’t need the buoyancy in my legs and wonder if the new one is making them too buoyant.

zl of TT1.0 (and my better half) used to get back pain in wetsuit swims due to buoyant hips. She got a custom Snugg wetsuit with thinner neoprene on the legs/hips, this fixed the issue.

There’s a lot of illness rampaging through my house at the mo. All 4 of us are either carrying, suffering with or recovering from one thing or another. Most unlike us.

I feel generally fine, all except my throat and chest. Both are mega tight and I’m having trouble breathing. My out of date blue inhaler isn’t making a difference. But it’s peeing me off.

Might be time I had an overdue visit to the asthma clinic though. I mostly just put up with it. But as I age, any time I get ill or run down it seems to hit my airways.

A month on, mostly reassuring progress

Neck is much better, can turn about 75% normal which is good enough I guess, but does still hurt to get to that.

Bodyweight squats etc been going ok, and managed two 4km runs in the past week, with no neck pains.

Resting nerve pains are gone, but still aggravated by minimal activity. Swam about 40 metres in the sea and arm doesn’t work properly, and provokes nerve pain afterwards. Likewise tried to do some incline press ups, and even those were a struggle with the left arm, feeling weak.

Ongoing hope the nerve keeps improving

Something going with me as well. I keep swinging from feeling ok to feeling utterly rubbish. Ran parkrun yesterday and whilst it was hard work, generally felt ok until mid-afternoon when I started to feel really bad. Fell asleep in the afternoon in the chair, which is extremely rare for me.

Don’t feel any better really today. Had plans for a medium to long outing but that’s been abandoned. My overall volume is very very low lately. :slightly_frowning_face:

I hear ya mate. Feel like a wreck at the mo. So. Frustrating as every time this year I’ve got a few weeks of consistency together, I get injured or ill or work kicks off. Driving me nuts.

Still stuck with this tight chest and cough. Just can’t shift it. Absolutely out of breath and blowing after just 20 pressups.

Plus whilst garndeing on the weekend I’ve done something to my hip. Feels like I’ve got muscle tightness rubbing against my sciatic nerve is my best guess. Constant dull pain on the rhs of my right glute, deep inside. Gets triggered by certain movements where I get a sharp, very painful shock. Getting it in lower back through the glute and down into my leg.

Have tried all sorts of stretches and there’s a whole chain of tightness on that rhs all the way up to my neck (was hedge trimming with a heavy, long telescopic trimmer for ages on Sat).

Only genuine relief I get is when I’m walking weirdly enough.

My left hamstring is niggling again after Saturday :rage:

Got a massage booked in again today though and will stick to cycling for a couple of days and the back exercises.

Good news here.

Don’t want to tempt fate, but my hip has been feeling really good for the last 2 weeks.

Tonight was club duathlon training & I decided to give it a go. Hip felt great, much better than I expected, was able to complete both runs & the bike. 4km of running and 30km of biking.

Was passed by every man and his dog, but that’s a different story :grinning:

But I feel like I’m definitely back in business. Now need to get fit again, having basically not run for 4 months .

FFS now got a pretty upset stomach, I’ll save you the details :joy: not sure if it’s from the river or something else.

Can’t get a break ATM :rage:

Dont k ow what Ive done to my wrist. Yesterday I got like a spasm in it and my fingers curled in like trigger finger.

It loosened up and thought nothing of if. Noticed some of the muscles were tight and massaged them and now its really painful.

Suppose to be playing cricket tomorrow and cant hold a bat and not sure I can bowl very well.

Off to the knackers yard

I’ve been in pain for 3 weeks now having understood why they don’t combine golf and swimming in the same event

Finally settling down. Was sore when ran - tightness around back/ribs/chest

Was like WTF

I’d be interested to see what folk would wear for a combined event like that.

My calf muscles are absolutely destroyed today. Swollen, painful to touch and can barely walk without limping.

What did you do Bob, I hear you ask. Did you run 70k like GB? Did you cycle 1000’s of kilometres like Matt?

Nope. I simply jumped out of the pool at the end of a session and cramped so badly it immobilised me for a good couple of minutes. Wtf?

So another update on the feet exercises 8 months on.

I’ve not had any pain under the left 3rd toe since doing them, and there really is a bounce in my run, but in a bigger scoop, my balance has improved quite considerably since I now have (some) strength back in my toes.

But the biggest scoop, is that this AM when walking from the swimming pool to changing room, I noticed that my foot prints are no longer flat as a pancake, seems that I now have slightly risen arches due to improved muscle strength I guess
