Pretty sure neither of them is a Vet
Skipper said he was doing Frankfurt in a couple of weeks, if he can get over an injury, he DNF’d on Sunday
In the words of the Fresh Prince…here I go, here I go, here I here I go…

That blue CTL line will be going up even more after the weekend.
Looking pretty hot in Germany next week; lucky we’re not doing Frankfurt (but then you’re asking for trouble going there). Temps dip back down after that.
I find I can cope with up to about 30, then after that it gets painful on the run. Last time I did Austria I think it was high 20s an I had a solid run there, didn’t walk a step. Pretty shaded the run course there though.
Seen the YouTube flyover video’s for the course?

Bike has some technical bits but I think a lot of the town bits will still be on the tri-bars.
Jeff
By technical for a triathlon, you mean having to use the brakes and turn?

hmmmm furhter SOHF kicking in.
Have they changed it dramatically? I don’t remember the 1st 1/3rd of each lap as doing circles around an industrial area?!
And what, what, possessed them to want to make it long?! They don’t even pretend it’s 180km.
Why courses with out & backs can’t be accurate I have no idea
Frankfurt is now the same.
yeah, I don’t normally moan about stuff, but IM’s are such expensive one off events I want them to meet expectations.
Haha, yes there’s a reason I like time trials on long straight roads, you don’t have to think about braking or turns.
On the road out of town there’s no reason why they can’t turn round a cone or something. 3k extra on the bike is something like 5 minutes.
Jeff
Probably a bit more for me unless it’s slightly downhill
or I’m in a peloton ![]()
Given my experience in Elsinore, given a flat course, how do you avoid pelotons? you just end up with a big group of riders drafting you, alternatively if you drop back and sit 12m behind the peloton, you end up riding at the wrong intensity level and you keep altering your pace as bikes are shifting around in the peloton ahead more riders are being picked up all the time
I’ve not really had this, as all my IMs have been undulating; I have seen the odd pack, certainly in Austria the first year (09) where a few came past, and I was obviously unable to drop off the back legally and keep pace with them.
My issue generally tends to be constantly having to ease-off to be legal, as being a decent swimmer, I end-up getting caught by all the MAMILs…know anyone?
One of the best confidence boosters, is if/when you re-catch people late in lap 2 who have gone too hard and thus vindicates your pacing strategy. Happened to me in Regensburg; very different course in that it had a long steady climb early in each lap. Early in lap 2 I got dropped by a small group I’d been riding loosely with, I let them go, focussing on my power/pace. I saw a few of them again around 165km, which was nice (for me!)
FYI the Alster in Hamburg is currently 23.8 degrees. Long way for us to go yet though…
let’s hope they do the ‘dump a bucket of cold water in and measure the temperature trick’ then. Although given they are open about the bike being 183km I’m not hopeful.
When the Peloton passed me, I let them go past slowly, using my 25 seconds, then sat on the back around 10-12m for a couple of minute, you still get a good draft from a pack of 30 riders even at 12m, then made my way back through the peloton and sat on the front, for a while until the peloton decided to pass me again, I was getting frustrated that I was dragging along a load of slower riders, and felt that my pace was up and down, this went on for around 10km until I was able to break free
Whatever. I will be slow with or without a wetsuit
I do have previous in NWS swims, official time was 65, but iirc I was 64:** hitting the beach. So about a 5 min drop-off for me, for a conservative swim effort.
Control the controllable …
It’s Sold Out, finally.
